Fuel starvation/stock systems
To make a long story short I now realize for some time my power had been droping off due to fuel starvation. It finally hit me when I removed the gas cap and the resulting vacuum pulled the gas nozzle off the gas pump.
After I unsuccesfully went thru my evaporative system, I read thru the RACING BEAT technicial manual and checked the one hose I had missed. The hose was plugged from the Air Cleaner lid down to the base of the oil filler neck. Problem solved, the truck hasn't lit off so fast, hot or cold, or felt so perky ,in ages. As a result of this condition I fried my thermal reactor from the excessive heat of running lean.
Now as you would expect, the evaporative system gently purges tank vapors when running as designed. I shouldn't have waited so long to check things out.
Hope this helps someone else.

"Fried" thermal reactor?!?
If this is indeed the case, and went on for long enough, it's also likely that your apex seal springs have lost some tension, bit by bit, whenever one was parked in the vicinity of the overheating reactor...
