I use the stock Mazda air pump and brackets. I use no air control valve.
Connect the air pump to a stock Mazda check valve from most any cat equipped
RX-7, and attach the tube to the cat of your choice. My 75 REPU with headers
and Racing Beat muffler passed the E-miss tests with no problem!

I haven't tried Randoms cats, but hear good things about them. The cat I used
on my truck was an RX-7 Turbo cat that we had laying around.
