Bed removal
I'm about to remove the bed for cleaning/rust treatment, but I want to do it correctly. Which bolts to remove? Any other tips appreciated.

done that!
8 big bolts
tail lights
backup lights
license plate light
gas tank filler and breather hoses
2 guys can lift it off but having more helps
I went to Orchard Supply and got some real nice grade 8 bolts, washers, and nylox nuts. Not metric but close in diameter. The fiberglass pads / bushing whatever it is called that goes between bed and frame was a real tough one.
I ended up getting a sewer pipe rubberized plastic round coupler from Lowes that was real thick and cut it to proper size. Put grease on it before installing, to reduce rust liklihood.

Hey, thanks for the info. I counted 6 big bolts underneath..where are the other two hiding?
I swear..looking under that truck tonight with a flashlight reminded me of a PBS special on the titanic, the metal looked just like that!
What have I got myself into...!

Bolts
The front 6 bolts are on the outside of the frame. The rear 2 are inside, just behind the tail lights. Take a look at my website. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/crgj/ Scroll down till you see the image of the frame layout. Right click and save image as. Then open on your computer and you can see where the bolts are. Good luck, Charles.. Where in East TN did you say you lived.. I'm in Smyrna, just outside of Nashville.

Thanks for all the help.
I'm in Seymour, about 12 milesn south of knoxville towards gatlinburg.
I've sprayed the bolts with PB, gonna try to get 'em off tomorrow. Have you had luck with rust removal/prevention?

i just got the whole underside sandblasted and the inside of the bed i didnt get the panels done because i thought that they would ripple and cause more trouble for the panelbeater, as for the bed mount gaskets im going 2 use this trucks mud flap rubber strong as and should stop any vibrations.

Good idea on the mud flap rubber, but I'll see if I can find another donor for that. So far, I've had good luck on the body panels by sanding a bit, then several coats of "RustMort'.
I'm going to use 'Zerorust'over that, then primer, then paint.
