WTB: Engine Mounts

Does anyone have an extra set of Engine Mounts for the REPU? I guess the T2 is too hard on the orig's :)

I found this thread talking about solid motor mounts.. maybe something I could do... but I'd like something in the mean time.

engine mounts

Looks to me like Mazda still sells them ... cheap.
2003 catalog says $23 for # 1668 39 040 D

I have some used one $15 each.

I tried solid mounts in my REPU once. They were a stack of washers and some rubber pads. Too much noise and vibration. The front cover to front mounting plate bolts started wearing on the threads. I got a good used 1st gen RX-7 rubber mount to replace my bad one and swapped them back in. I seem to like stock mounts better, but maybe I should have tried the solid mounts without the rubber pads because they compressed over time and the tension loosened up.

My latest project seems to be doing what my REPU did back when it had a bad motor mount. Perhaps this is a good time to try solids again? I won't bid on the eBay ones. Get 'em! :) Besides, I think Scalliwag is making some right now.

Perhaps as an option of last resort?:

...I do have a pair of original, old, used rx-4 engine mounts...

They'd work fine.

Actually, how well they work depends on wear. I noticed the RX-3 mount with a spare RX-7 mount in my GLC feels as squishy as my REPU used to feel. I might try a torque brace this time simply because there are some strut towers to hook a cable to.

A cable perch could be welded to the upper passenger corner of the engine bay of our trucks. Then something could connect it to the two bellhousing bolts nearby. It would have to be a metal rod like the RB unit because the engine torques that direction under acceleration.

Probably worth going with NOS...

...if they're still available... nothing like doing the job once, instead of over and over...

does anyone make polyurethane motor mounts?

for repu? that would be a nice compromise between rubber and aluminum. normal and harsh vibration.

do 1st gen rx7 motor mounts work on repu?

I think the one I used was from a 1st gen.
