seatbelts

What did the '74 REPU have for seatbelts? Mine has a shoulder strap with a hook on it to attach to the lap belt but the lap belt has no place to snap it to. It is a little annoying to have the shoulder strap just hanging there all the time, I would like to either eliminate it or use it.

I was a little confused at first too. The hole is kinda hidden. See if you can find it.

Cool, I found it. On the metal latch but inside the loop of the strap. Those tricky guys at Mazda.

Now if I go to the local drag strip to see just how slow, I mean fast I am I should be able to pass tech because my seatbelts work.

Beware!

...this ancient seatbelt-to-shoulderbelt connect design can come apart suddenly and with no warning! I'm still using mine, but it requires ongoing awareness, attention, and adjustment...pain in the ass! Oh well, another REPU idiosyncracy...

How about adding JB Weld to that list of required steps to keep safe? That should hold it in place for an eternity.

I got way annoyed with mine and made a plastic bead to block that hole behind the button so it couldn't disconnect. Worked great! Could be done other ways, but I was a machinist, so piece of cake.

I always liked the tight adjustment you could achive with the 2 piece belts. The fact they seperate when not in use always annoyed me though.
The 77 has newer style seat belts. So it not a problem now.
