Rebuild advice.
I got a 77 Repu I'm trying to restore, and just got my hands on a '74 stock engine (that had been sitting for like 13 years).
After opening the engine, the first thing I noticed was that it had been rebuilt in the past, and unfortunately, they had honed one of the rotor housings.
The other housing has a tiny bit of scoring, which makes me uneasy about using it, as well, but it might be okay. I'm not too sure what the tolerances are.
As for the rotors, they are in great condition, and the side housings will be fine once honed.
But what I am wondering, at this point, is whether or not it's even worth it for me to try and get the housings replaced, and if so, where I could find some for a good price.
I know I can get FC parts easily, and even found a guy willing to sell me an '89 N/A engine, along with ECU, wiring, tranny, and drive shaft. But I'm not really sure what I can get away with.
With gas the way it is these days, part of me does lean towards getting a newer FI engine in it, but on the other hand, I'd love to have the thing be as close to stock as possible.
Any advice? Anyone know where I could get some cheap rotor housings? :D
Oh, and I do have the '77 5-speed transmission.

Well, I've heard of Goopy Performance, who supposedly can resurface rotor housings, but I've been a bit skeptical.
But I'm also concerned about the rotor housing that was previously worked on, and already had material taken off.

Do those housings bolt right on with the stock carb, etc?

The intake and exhaust does bolt up fine. Those rotor housings are the only ones still available with the water o-ring groove on the housings. In 86 they moved to the plates. You will use your front, middle, and rear plates.

Ok, I managed to find some '85 GSL-SE rotor housings, but that leads me to my next question. Where do you guys recommend I get a rebuild kit from?
I was hoping Rotary Aviation would have some, but it seems they only carry '86+.
Are the Atkins 84-85 kits good?

I have used a 84-85 13b rebuild kit and when I needed the gasket kit only I used a 81 12a kit from mazda or atkins. Just cut the exhaust gasket in half to fit the 13b and you have to buy the correct intake gasket separately.
Of course you have to get the right rotor seals to match your rotors, and I recommend the FD corner seal spring - better design. Be sure to use the rubber insert in the corner seal, it helps with hot starting.

Rotary Aviation kit will work fine. I have used it on 12A engines. Their o-rings are very forgiving.
