Ignition wiring

Fired the old truck up today and noticed the wires behind the ignition(key) are getting pretty warm after a drive. What do ya'll think?

If it is right by the switch, pull out the connector from the back of the switch and plug it back in. this will wipe the contact surfaces. If the surfaces are corroded it may be the whole problem.
Watch for connectors backing out of the assembly when you push it back together. I had a "ghost" problem from that. Car would not start with the starter but fired instantly when pushed... The ignition bypass circuit connector had backed out and the coil was not getting boosted while cranking. Took me a week to figure that out... LOL

Better yet...

...hit it with a tiny bit of 'De-ox-it'-type electronics contact cleaner.

Might want to monitor it closely, though, no matter what -- the switches do tend to fail, at some point... not to mention what can happen to the aged wiring...

All amperage goes through the ignition switch. Mine always feels warm.

I also had same problem as road dancer. Ignition switch would cut out power to coils when in start position. Installed toggle switch for starter to bypass igntion switch. Starts great now.

For the younger folks here...
"Back in the day", Many cars had a 9 volt coil with a resister to drop the 12 volt down to 9. The ignition bypass would put 12 volts directly to the coil to get a hotter spark during cranking, overcoming the voltage drop caused by the starter... And no wankel will start without it....
I had accidently pushed that one connecter out the back of the ignition wiring plug on my rx2. Crank like mad but no start unless pushed. Found it by persistence and blind luck.
