Rotary in a 91 B22 some direction...

Hey everyone, cool forum. I have a 91 b2200 standard cab, standad box, I have already put the 8v to the limits, and would like to go for a rotary, to be different, and I like roatries. I was wondering if anyone knew of a company that made engine mount adapters for this application or whether I have to custom make something? I couldnt seem to find anything so I thought this might be a good place to ask for some answers. I would just like to do a simple 13 B installation with a carb conversion so I wouldnt have to deal with engine harness and computer issues, I know not the most powerfull setup but something more than what I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

By the way, it's an '86.

Engine Mounting

My guess would be that you'd have to fab 2 engine mount extenders. This is not hard, you just need a good chunk of steel, and use the stock mounts for the RX-7. My guess is you'll use the 6port with the engine mounts in the center of the engine. I if this is the case, put the stock RX-7 mounts on the mounting location, then measure carefully the relationship between the tranny bell housing and where the mounts are. Use the steel as an "extender" to get the geometry in place. Drill your holes through the 'extender' and bolt it all up.

Also, don't forget to get a bigger fuel pump, I don't think the stock B-series truck pumps could pull that much fuel.

Jeff!

Like your conversions!
I want to put a rotary(carb) in a 90 5.0 mustang. Also use the 5.0 T5 trans if possible. I assume, find a complete engine with carb and then rebuild if needed. Your ideas please. Thanks.

That's Awesome! I've seen 5-point-slows put into RX-7's before (what a horrible thing to do) but not the reverse!

Junk yards are a great place to find engines, for $50 sometimes. The toughest thing would be making an adapter place for the tranny.

Kennedy Engineering maybe able to help with an adapter http://www.kennedyeng.com/

Mounts

Hey Jeff 20B ( cooool truck ) How did you make the mounts for your truck, and how hard was it to get it running with the carbed intake ?? Like I said I'm somewhat new to rotary, I'm a big mazda fan so I know some but, not about the different versions that came in the RX's tho. What year should I be looking for one out of? Anything particular? thanks

More Info Please

Jeff, do you have any more info on the Rotary to B2000 conversion. I just bought a 86 B2000 with a hole in the side of the block. I can buy a complete runnning 86 or newer RX-7 cheaper than I can buy a complete 4 cyl. I did a conversion on my 84 B2000 but that was way too much work. Are the newer ones easier. Mounts are not a problem, my questions are transmission, driveshaft, exhaust, etc. I've seen where its been done several times but there doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation on it. Any help is appreciated.

Whoa, too many questions! :) It's not my truck and I didn't do the conversion. All I know is it's an '86 which has a wider frame and make rotary installs easier. I think it uses the '74-'85 front cover motor mounts but I could be mistaken. If you've seen the pics, you'll notice how far back the engine is in the bay (a dollar bill is 156mm long). The intake and exhaust stuff is from Racing Beat. The tranny is part RX-7, part B2000. That's all I know about it.

I found this site looking for information on how other people have fabricated engine mounts. Ive swapped a 2.2L Turbo engine into my 2nd gen rx7 race car. I know a fair amount about the swap for the b2000/b2200 as Ive used a lot of parts from the b2000. Feel free to ask me whatever you want.

Seems to be since I became a member of thiis site not more then a few days ago I've ran into several people looking to do the swap into the 86-93 B series MADAWGS. If anyone needs info or has info that can help please contact me. I think Im going to create a site geared towards this swap. Im having the same probs as alot of you. I have an 86 B series and an 87 TII as the donor. Now I just need to get the knowledge someone else has to do this swap.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO OWNS THIS TRUCK IN THESE PICS???
please e-mail me whiz72@comcast.net

You know I just saw a vid clip from 7-Stock of a B-Series conversion that had "Atkins Rotary" plastered on the windshield. It was a supercharged, carburated setup but still. It may or may not belong to someone who works there, or perhaps Atkins themselves.

It might be worth someone's time to drop an email over to Atkins to see if they know who it belongs to. I've hear they're friendly ppl, so it its theirs perhaps they'll be happy to talk to you a bit. If they do help just buy something from them to return the favour maybe. I dunno. Worth a shot.

It's owned by a guy over in Post Falls, Idaho. He's got a rotary shop. I don't remember the name or the URL for his website though.

I think you guys are talking about Skip Gorman and his group. They opened a new shop in Post Falls, Id. Its called "Revolution Rotary". I'm about 75 miles from there, and I'd be happy to ask about their REPU.
The website appears to be;
<revolutionrotary.com>.
I haven't looked at it yet, but will soon.

I checked out the website earlier today when someone else told me where they were located. I have sent them an e-mail and even saw pics of a diff. REPU flat bed on thier site. Im hoping that between ATKINS,RACING BEAT, and These guys I can get some solid suggestions on this swap. Thanks for all the replys and all the help. Keep it coming.....

Just got an e-mail back from revolutionrotary in Idaho. They dont do the swaps a street rod shop down the road from them does the swaps they just get them running. He also said they typically charge between 7-8 grand to do them. So in a sense I've hit a dead end there, I replied and asked if he could get me in touch with the street rod shop that does them ( I'll keep my fingers crossed ).

Well how much are you expecting to spend? $7000 is way too high but keep in mind its not free unless you do it yourself and even then if youre not experienced with that sort of swap then youre going to run into countless uncertainties and hangups. Trust me. I'm the first person to put an F series engine in an RX7 (Im basically doing it for the hell of it). I figure it will be fast and still handle well since my mx6gt ran 13s with minimal mods. Reply to the email I sent you with the links to my race car and if you want since youre so close we can possibly do the swap for you.

B2200 ---> RX7 twin turbo swap

Hey everyone.. i know this topic has been here quite a few times.. wasn't able to find any recent info after 2003 .. I'm just looking into swapping my exsisting 1990 B2200 engine with an Rx7 twin turbo.. Has there been any success stories on here with doing that?.. And are all Rx7 engine rotary cause i could've swore they stopped doing rotary around 1990.. I'd prefer to not go rotary.. i can't find one mechanic in this small town that does rotary.. and i don't kn ow enough about them yet to mess around with them.. any info or webpages would help me out a lot.. thanks guys.. love the forum..
