Hey Diane....welcome!

Do you know Danny Benzer? He's a long-time Mazda enthusiast from Austin. I bought my Repu from him.

I'll take you up on that, Mr. Moderator. I am not too sure where my questions belong, though I should being a moderator on protege5.com . :)

Here's my issue: All the pics of REPUs I have seen so far don't quite match some of the things my 74 has.

First, mine has some weird hood ornament that I don't even know if it is a Mazda emblem-it's an eagle of some sort.

Second, why does mine not have "Rotary Power" on the tailgate?

The paint/body panels all seem to be original and the original paint (yellow) is oxidized the same over the whole truck. Oh, this is not my first resto project. :)

Is there a way to post pics here to show what I am talking about?

TIA!

Some previous owner (PO) must have added the hood emblem. What style of tailgate do you have? Does it have the word MAZDA imprinted in the sheet metal? If so, it is from a B1600. If it just has two horizontal 'body lines' (you know, for extra stiffness to prevent flexing of the tailgate) without the stock ROTARY POWER stickers, then it's either been repainted or the PO removed them. What a boinger brain lol! Anyway, there is an outfit that does quality aftermarket vinyl decals for our trucks. Mine had the long decal that ran from front to back, but the retard PO removed them (and did a horrible job!). I'll be getting those decals after I repaint mine; whenever that is.

You have a website, right? You could upload the pics there and link them to diplay on this forum with the {img} tags (use the [ brackets, not the {). You could also go to the photo section and upload a couple pics and link em so they'll appear in this thread as well. I'll demonstrate with a pic I uploaded here a while back:

Tailgates & such

The very early REPU's had only one stiffener in the tailgate as opposed to two for those coming later.
All the "ROTARY POWER", "MAZDA" on the tailgates were factory vinyl stickers, color depends on paint color of truck.
No hood ornaments were ever installed by Mazda.
The body vinyl stripes were dealer applied and depends on the dealer/applicator.

I thought the single stiffener on the sheet metal must have come on the first few hundered trucks. but I have found later number 74's that also had the single bar tailgate. All my 1/74 trucks that I have had had the single bar but one,it had a double, but it was the only one with the original Mazda decal set?
My 5/74 truck had a double rib gate.
I had a 7/74 that had a single rib.
I don't know, but I think the double rib is the one that has seemed to make it through the years.

Tailgates n such

If you can get a parts guy to look it up, he can tell you what the cutoff was for the single stiffener tailgate.

Thanx for the info guys. :)

hmmm....I'm not sure what the "stiffeners" are exactly. I am having a few probs just trying to get my baby home...

I'll get some pix of the gate and we'll have a look-see. I can say that it doesn't have Mazda or anything on the gate; just an emblem that looks like a double rotor and has "RE" in the middle of it.

Oh, and since it got hit in the yard I bought it from, I can see that it has been repainted-still the original yellow.
