Cant get 84 mazda truck to run?

well, i have put a fair amount of work into other aspects of my truck, before relizing i have a problem w. it running. If i say, put some gas in the carb , it will start and run for a sec, so i know i have a problem w. fuel. If i just run the pump off a hot wire and a ground, it will run, but contiue to run. so it then gets too much gas. if any one has diagrams of the gas setup for this that would be great or any help or advice... anything! lol. thanks

Float in Carb. leaky or stuck...

...or, perhaps, crap in inlet valve... Time to rebuild that carb.!

Sometimes...

...everything's OK until it gets 'disturbed'... What are the odds some little piece of crud broke free post-fuel-filter, (and pre-carb), and stuck itself in your carb's float-bowl inlet valve? What could've become 'unhappy' during the carb's relocation?
Try whacking the carb on the sides of the floatbowl with a small rubber/plastic mallet, or screwdriver handle, or some such thing... within reason (!) You don't wanna over do this, but sometimes that's all it takes to un-stick a float... Just take care not to do damage.

If you are talking electric fuel pump, maybe a pressure switch or relay somewhere that is supposed to cycle the pump at low demand, not working at all and shutting off electric to the pump. If you can find it, bang on it, sometimes they get stuck. '86 mustang had it under the drivers seat. If it sticks once, it will stick again. About a $50 part on the mustang. Good luck!
