Anyone know Mike Roberts?

... "scalliwag_performance" on ebay? I know he at least used to frequent this forum... I bought one of his engine stand adapters off ebay two weeks ago, sent payment that instant (was a buy it now auction), but still haven't seen the piece. His auction stated that if you pay by Friday, he ships the next Tuesday. I sent him an email this morning, no reply yet (I expect it to take him a day or two), but I happen to look at his feedback and there are quite a few negatives that claim he never even sent product and some claim he ignored requests for tracking numbers. Then there's other that say it took weeks and weeks to get what they paid for- I'm not bashing the guy- but after reading all the negative and neutral feedbacks (should have done it initially, but I didn't think I had anything to worry about, 'ya know) I'm a little concerned I may have been ripped off. Anyone ever dealt with him before?

Neal.

I only knew Mike through the other vintage rotaries forum that apparently died. I can say I know he's not a scammer, that is, he isn't set up to take money and run.

I remember from reading his posts that he always seemed to be neck deep in projects and other things. I get the feeling he was almost perpetually in over his head with regards to taking more orders than he could fill in a timely manner.

I doubt that he's ripping you off, its more probable that he's way way behind which is almost as bad but not quite. Just keep control of the tone of your correspondence (if there is any) as you know how it is when things escalate, then you're guaranteed it'll go badly.

I think the only way I'd buy from him is if I could call him and talk to him first, and get an idea as to where his head is at with his projects.

I think you can salvage things, I just think that it might take a lot longer than by rights it should.

Good luck with it.

Thanks Martin for the reply. No one needs to worry about me flying off the handle or anything- I'm not mad or anything, it's just when I realized it should have been here a week or so ago, and I checked out his feedback I got that feeling of "Oh No", that's all. If it was just one person giving him a negative, that's one thing, but you know.... plus I really want the adapter! I like his design over all the others (I think Pettit makes their version like Mike or vice versa).

I'll give him the rest of this week to respond before I really start to wonder what the heck is going on. And you're probably right, he's probably just swamped, but that's no excuse either- I'd at least drop my buyers a note letting them know what is going on.

Anyone Know

I bought some stuff from him when he decided to part out his 74 project. Stuff took awhile to get to me, but it did show up along with a note of apology, He's OK in my book.

Well, I waited long enough...

Not that anyone really cares, but in case he would happen to resurface here and blast me about it- I finally left negative feedback for Mike on ebay and filed a 'never received item' dispute with ebay. I waited six weeks since the date I paid him, sent him three emails (which he never answered) and left a message at the number he has on file with ebay today. I just got to a point where no response after this much time was unacceptable to me. And after six weeks, I'm sorry, but no excuse is going to be good enough unless (hopefully not) he's dead or in the hospital. Surprisingly enough, I'm still not mad, but more disappointed and perturbed that a 'Mazda' person would treat others in this small community this way. Oh well, everyone's different, I suppose.

I really hated to give someone negative feedback, and put it off as long as I could, but his business practices (in my opinion) dictate that he deserved it.

Bleh. That sucks. I was hoping he'd come around and do right by you.

Its definitely worse when its someone "in the community".

Hope others come across this thread before they (attempt to) buy from him in the future.

It's unfortunate, but...

...history would seem to dictate that there is a sizeable contingent of folks who 'didn't come through' who were or are an element among the 'rotary community'... (and yes, to give the benefit of the doubt, 'stuff' can happen to the best of us...)...
Perhaps inquiring with "Dr. Strange" (resto. Steven) would be productive? I seem to recall they were pals back when that 'vintage' site was up...?

True, Klaus, there are always some bad apples in every group, and yes, things can and do happen, but come on... I mean seriously. I'm not the only one that has waited, let alone not received anything. If you view his feedback there is clearly a pattern of behavior there, I just made the mistake of not checking into that before I tried buying from him. And although I realize you were only trying to point out another possible contact path by mentioning Steven, I am certainly not going to try and track down someone's friends, relatives, etc. to get answers. I went straight to the source (repeatedly) and got nothing. I mean exactly how flexible, forgiving and pushy does everyone really want to get about something as small as the engine stand adapter?

I never looked at his Ebay anything...

...so I didn't know/couldn't comment... just figured perhaps an alternate route of cajoling the desired outcome might get results, that's all. More flies with sugar than vinegar, ya know? Anyhow, best of luck, and sorry to hear...!

Holy Cow....

... and I thought I was a little frustrated!

I honestly can't remember how I came upon the thread, it was linked from somewhere else (trying to find more contact info on scalliwag). I haven't even looked at RX7Club in years, but WOW! Mike has much bigger problems than my puny little complaint!
