I actually overtorqued the tension bolts by a couple foot pounds. I went up to 30 with my beam style torque wrench, but it felt a little too tight when I tried to turn the engine by hand so I backed them all off to around 20 and retorqued them to 25 and rotated the engine again. It felt better. Then I went up to 27 and rotated it again. It still felt good. Then to make sure the clicker-type torque wrench was doing its job, I set it to 27.5 and tried again. Only two moved a little. The rest just clicked it. This is the fisrt time I've tried the clicker type of torque wrench, by the way. It seems within about a half a foot pound from my beam type. I'm satisfied.

My Cosmo FSM says to torque tension bolts from 23 to 27 foot pounds. My rotor housings are old so I went up to 27.5.

I'm going to clean and inspect an old REPU flywheel tomorrow. I'll also try to get all the guts under the front cover finished.

How's it going, Elysian?

i put the front cover on and everything got too tight, my E shaft end play went away, and to turn the E shaft i have to use a cheater bar... so i gotta pull the front plate back off and figure out why this happened.... then i am also have a problem getting the transmission to mate up... i need a clutch allignment tool... i can't work on it again till wednesday since the hobby shop is closed till then... before i put the front plate on, i was turning the E shaft, and i definately have compression on all 3 sides of both rotors...so just to fix the problems at hand now

One of the bearings probably fell and got squished when you tightened the 19mm bolt.

Yes, you need a clutch alignment tool. My engines always go in easy thanks to them. I honestly don't have the patience to line up the clutch by sight, let alone install it onto a tranny knowing it's not aligned correctly. Get one at Schuck's for like 1 to 3 bucks.

you are right that the J-spec housings are not actually out of a GSL-SE what they are is 6-port, j-spec, 13b rotor housings they were used in the Luces and Cosmos prior to 86 but most people in the US have no idea what these cars actually are or that they even exsist. Because for all intents and purposes the housing has the same oil metering port and the same timing location with the only difference being slightly smaller exhaust porting we identify them to people as a J-spec GSL-SE to cut down on the confusion(in reality we may have added to it)

I know if a shop told me something like that, I'd probably feel insulted. Of course I know better. There is a lot of ignorance out there.

Just go ahead and tell the truth. If the person on the other end can't handle it, you can refer him/her to the internet (to people like us who love rotaries).

Ok, so I got the flywheel all prepped and installed. Then I just finished the front cover and checked the end play. It felt ok. I'm resuing all the thrust stuff, so I'm not worried.
