Hi, I am new

To the world of REPUs anyway.
Not a new rotary guy.
I've had three 3rd gen RX7's
Still have one currently.
Anyway after looking for about a year I just found this, or I should say the owner found me.
I am picking it up this weekend.
Its got a 12a outta an 83 rx7 and it needs a rebuild and some tlc.

Cheers,
--- >Dave

Hi Dave, I remember seeing you on the RX7Club forum. I am new too. I got and uglier REPU than yours a few weeks back. If it wasn't free it would not be in my driveway.
This dawg needs a lot to get it on track in order for me to feel any sense of pride at this point.

Holy crap scalli, the welded your battery box shut! That's got to be on my list of favourite things about REPUs and they just welded yours shut. We'll have to fix that for you.

And a belated welcome to the group. I'll admit I didn't know what to make of your first couple posts cause I felt like I was being scolded for not working harder on my truck, but I'm over it :) Just me being sensitive towards my own lack of progress on my restoration project.

When I finish my truck I'll be intereseted in talking to you as I'll be wanting to 'freshen up' my '91 cabrio. Your FC experience will be very welcome.

Anyway, looks like you've got your work cut out for you. Going custom on a lot of that stuff will help you tremendously. I'm TRYING to stick with OEM since my truck is 95% complete.

I don't like to talk about them until I get them done but if/when I finish a new REPU reproduction part (I'm working on a few) I'll make them available to the group so depending on how fast you get your turck together I may have an item or two you can use.

Good luck with your latest project,

Scalliwag.

I quoted his mesg there. I was stupefied to see someone welded his battery box lid shut. Though I definitely extend the welcome to you too. I replied to a couple of your posts on other threads too.

Where are you located again?

Catch you later,

Should you decide to keep that 'wrong' 12A,

make sure you plumb in a 'real' REPU or rx-4-style oil cooler, if it hasn't been done already. That 'under the filter' thing is a joke on it's own, though an acceptable auxiliary... If you're gonna rebuild it, you'll wanna help it to live!
Congrat's on your REPU, BTW! Looks about par for the course as far as starting points go...

Hell welding up the battery box was one of the least stupid things done on the truck. Take a look at the air shock protruding into the bed. Some of the stuff someone went way out of the way to screw up. The interior "mods" are pretty ghetto also.

Sad...

...what some misguided kids'll do. I do envy your intact taillight trim rings, though! I don't have time to go hang out on the rx7 forum as well, but I for one wouldn't dream of ragging anyone for wanting to put a P-port monster under the hood... I think it's cool, and it's certainly not inappropriate to take an otherwise-boogered up oldschool car or truck and make it a custom hotrod instead of restoring. Have fun with it!

If the truck hadn't already been hacked up so much I would be inclined to restore it. As a matter of fact I will end up selling a lot of the factory stuff in hopes that some of the original trucks can live on. The only beauty in those tail lights is that was the way the truck came.
I have to get creative and make some that are unique but add to the end result of the rest of the mods. How the frontend turns out in particular the grill and bumper sets the tone for what will work in the back.
I would hate to see a REPU in restorable condition get what this is about to get. When I restored the AE the thought never entered my mind to make it look any different than the day it was born.
Nicer REPU's than this have been put under the crusher.
Thanks for appreciating the fact that what I am doing to this is not a sacreligious endeavor. The AE restore kinda proves this truck's fate would not be my first choice if I had something better to start with.

Have you got any specific plans on yours yet Dave or are you going to play it by ear? I will post a thread with some mockups on my ideas and get feedback from the group.

WellI have been dreamin up all sorts of shit. I will most likely see what is realistic and what is not when I get the truck home.
I have a entire Fd spare drive train. Extra motor mounts, tranny, diff, axels, brakes, seats, wheels, you name it.
I have lots of rx7 stuff that might find its way onto the truck.

I have noplanes to restore the truck back to factory specs.
I will restore the truck to excellent running condition and make it look as clean as I can get it.

I havent thought it all through yet and have no real plan on anything so far.

Time will tell.

Here is my rx7 just to show you my other rotary.
I have done everything on this car except the paint.
I did the rebuild, engine porting, mods, polishing, enterior (used to be tan) yada yada....

Thats all.

VERY nice FD there man. Most excellent attention to detail.
That is the kind of stuff I love.
It rates as one of the nicest I have see and in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area there are a bunch. There are way too many people that half-@$$ everything. it is good to see one that was done right.

I have not seen a REPU on the street here in DFW in over 10 years here though in any type of condition :(

I have never seen a REPU in person.
Mine will be the first. :)

Hey FD3Boost,....

Where did you get that engine mount? The black part, not the stand. It looks well made, but it looks like its mounted too far forward to swivel the engine.

I like the flat mount, but I found if I make them like that and try to center them, I can't access the plugs.

Can I get a pic of the engine mount? I need to make a few more, and maybe you design can help me.

Actually I picked that one up from harborfreight.com
Ran me about $45.
I was told that I would need an adaptor to mount the plate to it for assmebly. Not true. I bolted the plate right and it worked fine. I was able tp swivel the engine as well.
If you want pics I can get you some tomorrow no problem.

How about you sell me a battery box cover off one of dem repus you got.
I was just over at 7club readin your story about the white one you found at the junk yard.

Your Dreaming Buddy,

That white one is one of my drivers right now. When I get my trucks wrapped up, I will have a parts sale, but until then, I only let loose of the damaged, and nobody really wants that stuff.

I really don't even know if I have an extra one to be honest.
