found a parts truck up north here

Hey guy I got a lead a few weeks back on a REPU in a small junkyard.I called the guy who runs the yard and asked about it.He said indeed it was a REPU but it belonged to someone else.Well this weekend i was camping in the area and called the guy at the yard and asked if I could look at it.He said sure and off I went.I walked out back and there she was.a blue 74 that looked a bit rough.Upon closer inspection the bed doesn't look too bad aside from some cracking near the cab on the drivers side that looked to be bondo coming loose. The battery box was rotted pretty bad but did have the top piece that clips down over the battery(mine is missing that piece). The bed was full of other car parts, and leaves so I can't tell the condition of the floor. The dash pad was gone, and the dash pretty ravaged.Drivers door was dented in and the glass was gone.Door caught the fender and you all know what happens then.Hood looked good aside from dirty and the trim on the front was gone.grill was still "argent" but one of the mounting tabs behind the headlight trim was broken. The emblem was intact and faded in the amber area but not bad all in all.Hood prop was there. The floor of the cab looked rotted pretty bad.Engine was a newer 13B with a Holley that didn't seem to be modified in any way for the rotary(OMP was wired full open). What do you guys think this is worth?Remember I am up here in New England and any REPU is very rare. The thing is I wanted to take parts from it yesterday but the owner of the yard said the truck isn't his,and that I would have to get ahold of the owner.I tried calling the guy but keep getting an answering machine that is vauge and never even says "Hi you have reached so-and-so.What should I do.

Sorry for being so long winded.

Chris

keep trying.....

to reach the guy that is. If you remember the "whoa Doggies" thread, then you will know that good may come out of it, but if you quit trying to secure it, you are guaranteed nothing. You never know, you may find the owner, and he/she may not even want it and might just give it to you for cheap or maybe even free.

I say give it a shot cause you have nothing to loose.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention the truck has what i believe to be the stock "Rib case"transmission. The reason I mention it is my truck has a RX-7 tranny in it.The trucks tranny has a wierd bow tie shaped hole on the top of the bellhousing exposing the ring gear on the flywheel. Is this the mark of a rib case?

I don't know about a "bowtie" shaped hole....

but there is a round hole with a notch out of each side that should have a rubber cap installed with the letters "TH" on it. It is on top just about where you describe.

A "rib case" tranny is one with a grid pattern of reinforcement gussets on each side and they have a separate bolted on bellhousing as opposed to the early rx-7 trannies with an integrated bellhousing. The tranny sits in the truck at a slight tilt towards the passenger side, and comes in a 4 speed for 74 - 77 and an optional 5 speed for 77.

Sources seem to imply

that there might be some '76's that came with 5-speeds as well...
