I have pondered this question many of times for my 75. I think it all has to do with the exterior modifications of your beast, and how you want it to look.

Are you restoring for original condition, or modifying? Chrome or paint? Choice of wheels? New school/Old school? A different choice in colour can definately make a difference to the whole attitude of the car.

Personally I love cobalt blue.

Metallic grey, silver,

'Inca' Gold, burgundy, --all the variations of red/gold/brown to silver-grey earth tones, as long as they're metallic. Especially nice in a classy two-tone application... (Ghost flames?)
Then you'll want to redo the interior in dark brown leather...

Hey Klaus I love the idea of a maybe copper color and a Inca gold 2 tone paint but where would I break the colors?Maybe a fade down low or do you have a better idea?My RX-7 is actually a nice(i think atleast) copper color that I chose a few years ago when i restored it.It started life as a 83 Limited edition with the chateau silver paint but i went in a different direction.I know changing the color on my EPU to those colors mentioned will be alot of work but I did do it already on my 7 with a complete repaint right on down to the engine bay and all.as a matter of fact here is a link to my car. www.marx7.org

look under members and Chris Dirado my car is on the first page and the truck on the second.

No offense, but...

...I wouldn't have suggested such a color scheme for a REPU... more appropriate to a modified B-series, first-gen, or something else... to me, anyways. I like REPU's restored to stock colors, or tasteful, 'modernized' versions...

Oh yeah after re reading the original post i now realize the original poster was talking about a b series. My bad.I was really thinking of going back with the stock green or maybe a metallic version of it,or maybe still a different hue of green. But your suggestion of colors peaked my interest in how it would look.I agree with you though on original or "modernized" stuff.I wa sjust asking the question to see the ideas you had on a 2 tone and where it would break. Thanks for the input.I think I will stick with the green after thinking about it a while(less work).

Chris

Yeah, the two-tone REPU...

...might be better looking done 'race truck' style, i.e., hood and top of cab one color vs. the rest, or perhaps a radical angle across the whole truck... best on a racer, though. Just wouldn't be my choice for the street. I do like the idea of a classy metallic/clearcoat 'update' of the stock colors... which would lend itself to certain subtle custom touches. Then there's always the different styles of racing stripes... beyond the vintage decals... I tend towards the more subtle, classy, 'sleeper' paint jobs for a REPU, though...

Interesting that you say that. I was farting around with photoshop last week trying to determine what I wanted to do with my paint. I liked roof and hood white with the rest of the truck in the phoenix blue ("Mazda Blue") with or without the VRD stripe kit, but it just never really looked right. I think this paint job works well on the late 60s domestic trucks but the body lines are different and the scheme doesn't flow with the REPU body as well.

So far it looks like its just phoenix blue or the yellow from the brochure (my stock colour) with the full VRD workup for me.

I'll want a two step job with the stripes UNDER the clearcoat though. Who knows though I'm a couple years from paint, I might see something else I like before then.

Believe it or not I get most of my inspiration from the 40-60's "Classic" trucks moreso than just about any other place. Part of me wants to do a full custom, colour matched hard interior (rework the entire dash) which I think I'd like but i feel guilty seeing as though my truck is 100% complete and original and my entire dash is pristine with no cracks.

Good problem to have I guess.

No problem, Martin!

Should you choose to go custom, I'd be more than happy to take your pristine stock dash off your hands! Of course, I'd also trade you several REPU's not so pristine or complete as yours, that could readily be customised, for your stock frame-off resto....

Heh, we'll see where I'm at when I do the interior. Probably be the last bits I wind up doing. Money and time will likely tell me what to do most likely.

It won't likely be a "stock" frame-off truck when I'm done. If we lived closer to each other I might take you up on it belive it or not.

I jokingly mentioned to my girlfriend yesterday that I need two trucks so I can do one totally stock and the other a total cutom job.

She didn't flip out.

Hmmm... (stroking chin thoughfully)

Maybe if I show some progress on this truck this year :)

A copper orange color like my RX-7 is painted? If so My color code was a 98-99 GM code if I remember right. If you don't know what I am talking about go to

www.marx7.org

and go to the members pages and look up my name:DiRado

I really like the color alot and would not hesitate to paint another car/truck that color in the future. It is a sweet color in the sun when it is all clean and shiny.
