factory shop manual

Hello again all,
I was just wondering is ther a supplement to the factory shop manual that shows a wiring diagram?I ask only because I got a shop manual but there is no wiring diagram. Also what is the box on the firewall shelf that says Mark IV on it with a small dashpot on the top under a rubber cap for?And what is the smallish box behind the seat(pass side)with wires looping out of it through the cover for?

Chris

I bought a Factory 75 REPU wiring diagram on eBAY not too long ago for $9.99 + shipping!! Haven't seen one for other years.

The Chiltons manual has some wiring diagrams in it that are alight. Scanned on the Photos part of this website.

Not sure about MIV.

Smallish box is a fusable link box. Big 8 gauge wire comes from alternator thru a 50 amp fusable link into batter +. Others are accessories. Box cover says what they power. AFAIK the fusable links are NLA but some peoples just repalce them with electrial wire. . . .

The box behind the passenger side seat is the ammeter shunt. It has a small amount of resistance to force a little current through the ammeter to get a reading. Mine didn't work. I suppose someone had replaced the shunt with a non-resistive element.
They use this so they don't have to push all the current through the meter, a technique used in older cars that caused a dash fire now and then. 45-55 amps at 13-14 volts can weld metal!
I don't know why they put it there. Close to the battery to monitor all the current draw, maybe.

the main purpose of the electrical box behind passenger seat

is the main fuse for the car. cable from battery plugs into said box. 50 amp fuse. then cable goes to power the fuse box on the shelf in engine compartment, also powers the ignition switch, and terminates at the + alternator output on the alternator.

So it really is taking juice from the alternator and charging up the battery.

It also has two 2 amp fuses that loop to the Ammeter gauge in dash. Thanks for that explanation Roaddancer, it helped!
