possibly parting out a 74 Repu

Would there be enough interest if I were
to buy and part out a 74 repu. it is
mostly stock, some rust that I saw on the
driver side fender, and the rear bumper
is not the original. and there is a dent
in the rear pass side of the truck. I am
not sure on milage, the color is green. I
have a pic but can't figure out how to post it.
let me know what you think. Lates Matt22

It all depends...

On the condition of it. If it is all rusty and banged up so bad that it isn't worth fixing up, then go for it. The problem with parting them out is that after all the main parts like fenders, hood, valance, doors, a few interior parts and engine parts, you have a whole lot of truck left and then what are you going to do with it. It is boneyard fodder after that. And shipping eats up the motivation on some of the larger parts pretty quick. I hate to see restorable trucks stripped. I leave that for the trashed and rusty ones. I suggest if you are hoping to get a REPU, then get one and restore it. Sometimes it takes a couple of trucks to get a good set of parts.

I'm working on him to keep it...

Matt's local here w./ me, and I saw a pic... this one looks a good resto candidate, at least from the pic... don't mean to bum any of you out, but I agree w./ nwaco on the long-term best use of complete REPU's... too many have/will get crushed anyway! Let's part the irreparable ones first! We'll see after we get a good, close look at it.

I saved mine from being parted out. When I got it, it was already missing the engine and two side marker lights. I caught it in the nick of time.

So do I...

...but I don't wanna pull one off an otherwise complete REPU to get it. Sure wouldn't mind if one came my way from an otherwise totalled--or no longer existing--truck... So, what ever became of our beautiful group buy plan for fiberglass repro's of this most-needed body part??? Sure seems demand would be high enough to make it worthwhile! For that matter, perhaps we should just look into reproducing it in aluminum or steel... all we need is one good mold, and the meticulous talent of a dedicated metalworking rotorhead...isn't at least one of us an experienced sheetmetal guy???

In regards to the "Valance" issue....

I'm with you Klaus, but we need to figure out who on earth has the perfect valances, and get, prod, coerce, or kidnap them and get them to put it up for the mold.

I think it is time for all who have a perfect valance to stand up and be counted.

I swear every one of us needs a valance and a dash, so lets get on with it. It's time to quit babbling and get busy. I have bought 6 trucks and anly have one half-ass decent prospect for a valance. The rest are trash.

I always wonder what happened with that group buy for the Valance.. It would be nice to have a metal reproduction made.

Repu Guru, what up?

The 'Guru'd said he's got a perfect one on his basement wall, to be used only for such a purpose... Can we talk ya into taking the next step for us, valance/air intake panel wise? Please? (Thanks in advance!)
