New Repu owner

I am in college on the other side of my state from home but I came across a Repu on craigslist that happened to be near my house so I had my dad pick it up. I have too many projects but I couldn't pass this up. Unfortunately I will have to sell my rx7 to fund this project.

The previous owner was using it as his daily with the original 4 port 13b for a while until something went wrong with the internals. Something about a bearing, I'm not sure. The housings don't look too bad, but I'm not an expert so I can't tell if they're worth using. I plan to have a 6 port 13b street ported and rebuilt buy a rotorhead that I know. Doing research on this site I am gathering ideas about how I will build this truck.

There is a pretty serious amount of rust, but I think I can handle it. Driver side floor board is flinstone status, and I think I'll just weld in a piece of sheet metal and put a floor mat over it and call it good.

It sounds like most people run dual pipes from the header with racing beat pre silencers back to a single muffler. I have a racing beat pre silencer on my rx7 and I hate it... it makes sort a frog croak/rattle sound that could be a leak but I think its just the pre silencer. I did buy it used so maybe its just old. I would like to run a racing beat header, 2" single pipe back to REV25 (the rotor shaped muffler, racing beat) with nothing else in between. Is this possible? I'm going for simplicity, cheap, NO rasp, decent sound.

Anyways heres some pictures

Also I appreciate how easy this site is to use. I tried for hours to establish myself on Rx7club.com but it forced me to jump through all sorts of hoops before I was even allowed to post anything. I was able to create an account and post pictures on here in 10 minutes. Awesome, just how a forum should be

I can see the pictures but if they can't be seen by other people let me know I'll mess with it. Still getting used to photobucket

Thanks

I've been able to get some work done on the truck since this post, but only on breaks from school so not as much as I'd like. I have a gslse motor being built for it… street port with side draft weber. I also found a guy on craigslist with probably the world's largest stash of repu parts. I picked up a more-solid cab, couple tail lenses, grill, side marker, battery door, fender, and the chrome piece for the hood.

pretty sketchy drive home. Not proud of this but circumstances left me no other option and it was tied down well.

The tailgate came out great.

In terms of exhaust, maybe your engine building friend can offer suggestions and Atkins Rotary too. I'm using the
Long Racing Beat pre silencer and a Racing Beat muffler that has been discontinued now and it has held up well.

For my exhaust im using the Racing Beat road race header, 2.5" turbo-2 presilencer, 12" long magnaflow, and the REV 2.5" Racing Beat Furai muffler. For pipe i used 2.5" OD boiler tubing. I love the sound of my exaust.

Welcome!

Welcome to the repu club and nice truck. If you run a header, straight pipe to a REV25 the truck will be horribly loud, as in people driving next to you can't hold a conversation. About 110db which is way over limit.

I've heard Sparky's exhaust, it sounds great. Aggressive, mean, not too loud. And that rotor muffler looks bitchin back there.

I installed a Racing Beat long primary streetport system in my truck. Header, dual presilencers, and their primaflow muffler. Sounds bitchin', it is considered 'quiet for a rotary' which is great for freeway buz. Louder than stock, it is throaty and sounds good when you get on it. In a nutshell the weber intake is louder than my exhaust by a long shot. I'll post a writeup with pics, it took some fabrication but it wasn't cheap.

The RB presilencers can will and do get cooked and go bad. The inner core on yours could be detaching, or a stud is coming loose either will make a rattle. But... they can take the heat and dampen noise better than anything else at or below their pricerange.
