Slinky's Retro REPU Project

After much searching, wheeling, dealing, swindling, negotiating with the wife.....and what not....I finally picked up what i think is one hell of a head turning daily driver. I am now the proud owner of a 1974 mazda REPU. I bought it from a car collector of sort(second owner of the Truck), he had 2 of them and one was all original. Mine on the other hand has had a full toyota 20R engine and trans swap performed by the original owner after The triangle destroyed itself. Has a weber carb and a hot head build, new clutch, the swap was done VERY well and just really needs some wiring cleaned up, a little brake work, and some fresh suspension. wheels and tires are already on the way ;)

Its rathe amazing how complete the truck is. the odometer ready 80XXX and i believe it. it was obviously well loved for a while, but has lived in a shop for a lot of its life. the thing runs like a top and is a blast to drive. i cant believe how many options actually still function fully.

well, enough blab, now pics!

So far it's unclear what will go into this in the future. I'm going to run the 20R until it pop's and then the plan is to swap in a KA24de and 5 speed, or a 22RET which i happen to have laying around.

but anywho, I will post updates as i clean it up. There will be some taistfull Daily Driver mods coming soon as well,

Just noticed my pics are not working...i'll look into that...

but anywho! did a tuneup and oil change on the truck today.

I have discovered that the motor swapped into the truck is NOT a 20r....it is a 20/22R hybrid motor....with a crowler cam, ported head, 9:5:1 comp ratio, lc Engineering intake manifold....already knew it had a weber carb, but never noticed how new of condition it is... finding more and more neat things about this truck as the days go buy.

also found that the trans is actually from a 3rd gen celica, not a pickup. I'm really curious how the original owner got the factory shifter to work on the trans.

gonna try and post a pic tomorrow of the crazy custom fabricated oil pan on the truck. its intense.

i was in the same boat, after a month of looking at the add i decided to just go see how it was...ended up driving away with it an hour later haha.

the little 4 banger actually has a lot of pep. its a 20/22r hybrid motor. has a built head, aftermarket intake and carb, 9:5:1 compression...it rips hard.

I actually just got the green light from my buddy up north on buying his running 302 this weekend...gotta start collecting more parts. the repu (tozda as we call it) will be known as the (fozda) here in another month.

shooting for 280 wheel horse. should be plenty of low end, and a good balanced motor for hauling equipment and whatnot without sacrificing too much fuel economy.

I REALLY do not wanna let her go...but After paying for all the necessary components for my upcoming wedding, Dropping a lot more cash then i expected on my rx7's stroker motor, and Buying my new harley...i really just am not going to have time for this project. If it doesn't sell quick i may just hide it from the wife at my dads place for the future....but i extra cash would be nice. i had such plans for it, really makes me sad. and no, i hadn't had the time yet to order the brakelines even :( i'm to young to be this busy....

I entertained the idea of your yellow truck but my green truck came with a second Repu that came from the desert. I'm already emotionally attached and commited.

Good luck with your sale. I'm really suprised you havnt sold it yet.

This one was for sale for *ages* along with a green one. The green one sold, and this one lingered on for several more months before it was bought by the current seller.

Anyone have more details on history of the green truck? Or possibly the hood trim with the dent that matches the hood?
