I tried joining through my wife's FB account as I don't have one, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any special instructions to join?

Not real sure why you weren't able to join the group.
No special instructions... but I do have to approve the application (to prevent spammers)... so far, I have approved everyone that has applied.
