Looking for opinions on carb & intake
Greetings! So what seems to be the best carb and intake package for the Truck as opposed to the light sports cars?
I have a 45 DCOE, but it's a race version with no choke... not practical for my mostly daily driver as winter approaches!
Do people like the Holley set up?
I have a hot Mini Cooper with a 48 IDA, but also no choke. It starts with enough fuel down it, but the REPU? Can these things be started without choke in the cold and wet? Not very easily in my 20 something years with rotaries!
Truck still has the original 4 barrel but just too lean and small for the street ported 13B.
Thoughts?

I don't have a lot of experience with the Holley so can't say much there.
I run a Weber DCO 48mm, DCO is the same as DCOE but without choke so that's what you have. I'm in Phoenix AZ now so cold winter starts aren't that bad, but when I lived in Colorado it still generally wasn't too bad. Usually turn it on, give about 10 pumps and it would start. If that didn't work after a couple attempts I carried a plastic trash bag I would wrap around the filter to make my own choke. Probably would help to step up to the next richer idle jet in the winter as well.

Others have great suggestions.
I rememner Racing Beat had a book and
suggestions for jetting the stock 74 carb.
They also might still have the holley and intake
all set up and jetted.
And Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks, glad to be back... actually joined here years ago, but other than swapping to about an 82 RX7 distributor, haven't had to do much other than the annual cap and rotor, and maybe plugs. Just remembered my info because I'm having to work on it and this is THE BEST resource!
Yes my carb is actually an "OER Racing Carburetor" copy of the Weber made in Japan. A very nice looking piece that came as part of a kit I bought for my Mini Cooper. I ended up building that Mini engine wilder, and went with the 48 IDA, so still have the 45.
I might actually have that book from racing beat... the stock carb had actually been working well other than having to run with a little choke to be able to use full throttle most of the time.
On a hot day about a month ago the recent problem started. My gf had to drive it so I could tow a trailer with another truck. It would not take throttle under load, it would fire up and idle and free-rev cleanly to about 2000, then fall on it's face. I got it home by discovering if I pumped the gas pedal and feathered the clutch I could richen the carb past about 4500 when it WOULD take full throttle and launch viciously!
Obviously, driving like that gets lots of attention! it was like a switch, all-on or burbling and bogging.
So I thought this might be a good time to upgrade the carb! You know, before just replacing the ignitors and getting the proper coils. What fun would that be?

Sounds like you may have picked up some dirt in the carb.
I also had a problem with a cracked fuel hose at the top of the tank where the pump would suck air instead of pulling fuel out of the tank, good time to replace the filter. I also had a carboned up vent hose at the oil filler base, the tank has to breath.

Cold start assist makes things so much nicer. It is easier to start my Rx7 racecar 12a J bridge with a Dellorto 48 DHLA than it is my REPU 13b streetport 48 IDA because the Dellorto has a 'fuel enrichment circuit' and the IDA does not.
If you can find a uber rare dual Weber 36 DCD then get it. It has cold start assist. And with progressive 4 barrels there is tasty velocity at the low rpms with excellent driveability which the BIG 2bbls do not have.
Never tried a Holley.
The stock intake has its benefits too. Cold start, 4bbls with a vacuum diaphragm to activate the secondaries so it won't bog down when you floor it. I'm considering one of these for autocrossing.
