Mazda REPU factory options...

Hi All,

I'm new here and have just bought a pretty original REPU that will be restored in the future. - Truck is in good condition, running with original motor (58000), and i'm trying to find out all specs about the REPU, and what factory options was available for it...

My truck have the Auto-trans, original AC, Tow bumper but also a unusual Stripe-kit I have never seen before...

I wonder what other Option was available for the REPU...?
- Grab handle...? (I have never seen it on a REPU...)
- Appliance or Superiour 15" alu mesh wheels...?
- What else...?

Thanks

But no where can I find any info what Mazda Original Options or Accessories that was available for it...?
- I did see someone who had a Accessories catalog but are there any pictures or scans available somewhere...?

I will take some good pictures of the Stripe-kit and post up later.

Give me a day or so to dig up my Dealer Accessory binder. I'll scan what it has in it.

Hi Neal,

Thanks, that sounds awesome...!
- I'm really eager to see what parts was available as a Factory or Dealer items for the REPU.

I just bought the 6 Lugs 15x6 Aluminum mesh wheels for my Truck as per the original Factory brochure, hope they will look good on there...

I also yesterday found a Mazda B1600 Options & Dealer accessories brochure that i bought, will be nice to see what parts was available for the B1600.

Regards - Fredrik

Got Lucky...

I got lucky. This binder was one of the ones that has already been unpacked from storage and I was able to go right to it. All of the pages for the REPU and B1600 factory authorized dealer accessories were scanned from my 1974 dealer only accessories binder that each parts department had. An interesting note is that back then, the dealers did not have as much latitude to have their own accessories farmed out to local suppliers like they do now for ballcaps, pens, etc. Most if not all accessories, service orders, signage, dealership appearance, etc. was much more rigorously controlled by Mazda Corporate (then out of Compton, CA on E. Ana Street). Regional distributors (all now defunct) had some freedoms, but not much. Some of the "special" trucks such as the "Freeway Hummer" and others got by the rule by being advertised and sold as "customized by Joe Blow Mazda", and not as a factory authorized modification. I have heard alot of interesting stories from the ex-Mazda folks I have gotten to know that worked for the company back in the 1970s. Learning more each day.

As a side note- if anyone stumbles upon one of the push bars (Page 5) that you'd sell, please let me know. I almost spent over $3k on a truck years ago- just to get the push bar. I want one. BAD.

The images from the binder are all up in my album. Enjoy.

Neal.

Umm..

Fredrik,

Pretty sure the "mesh wheels" in the brochure are wheel covers (if I am thinking of the same brochure- there are three, after all). Interestingly, they aren't shown in the binder pages I scanned, because they weren't "officially" offered at launch time. Another obvious difference between the brochure truck and the production trucks was the "RPU", "REPU", and "MAZDA" badges seen on the fender, bedside and tailgate.

Did they really offer a 15" wheel option back then?

Hi Neal,

Actually they are NOT wheel covers. - Thoose Aluminum mesh wheels was available at the time and did fit the REPU, also available for Rx2 and Rx4.

I think the first producer of these rims where Enkei in Japan, but Superiour and Appliance bought License to produce them in US. - Superiour rims where called 'Pantera Mags' and Appliance was called 'Wire Mags'. - Rims I bought for my REPU is 15' and will fill out the wheel arches abit better. - I will see if i can get any pictures up on them. They are 15x6 6 Lugs and I also have a set for my Rx4 that is 14x6 4 Lugs.

I really dont know if Dealers sold these rims as a option, but i guess We all have seen them in the Blue REPU brochure.

Yeah, thoose Extra badges are rare and probably just used on that Truck, i wonder if that Yellow REPU they are using in these brochures is still around somewhere...? - Must be a prototype...!

Thanks again for the brochure Neal, really good info...!

Regards - Fredrik

I added the section on the B1600 Sport Truck Accessories to my album. Note that the B1600 and Sport Truck shared some accessories, but the Sport Truck got it's own items as well such as a different cabin AC unit, rear bumper and topper.

I always thought the chrome locking gas cap with little swing-away door on the top was a Mazda dealer add-on. Maybe it wasn't specifically for the Repu though so not included in the accessory catalog.

On the subject of emblems, has anyone ever seen or heard of a Repu grill emblem that has a large "R" in the middle of the rotor instead of the olskool "m".

If I could ascertain how to include photos in this I could show it to you. It has me puzzled because it looks like a factory made emblem to me but different than any other Repu grill emblem I have seen. Just wondering if this was some rare 'test' emblem or something only a few Repus had.

The chrome locking gas cap is an actual Mazda part, not aftermarket.

Hi there,

This emblem sounds really interesting. - Any chance You could tell us some more about it..? - Where it came from, was it from a actual REPU, does this emblem have the Yellow resin in the middle...?

Thanks - Fredrik

The emblem I am talking about was on a non-op Repu that was actually on Craigslist about 9 or 10 months ago. Who knows, maybe the owner is a reader of this forum and can shed some light on this grill emblem.
I will try to add a pic.
