Electrical/wiring Upgrade

Don't have a choice. Now i need to modify wiring. New fuel punp and DLDFIS is blowing 15 amp fuse. Also, just had soldered wire in back if ignition switch get hot enough to unsolder itself.

Has anyone performed a serious wiring/electrical upgrade on their REPU???

What i had in mind...
1. Would like to fine a combo relay and fuse module from newer car. thinking ice cube relays and blade fuses.
2. Isolate as much amperage as possible from igntion switch and combination switches. Will not be able to isolate tail lights and blinkers.
3. Have dedicated relays for... fuel pump, igntion/motor, low beam headlights, high beams, heater/fan, radio, and electric cooling fans.

has anyone out there thought about or done this.
Open to any ideas.

yes , rewired my repu ,big pain in the ass . painless wiring makes a lot of small blade style fuse panels 4, 5 and 6 fused circuits with one relay attached . i ran a bulkhead through the cab with a reset able 50 amp marine breaker then ran feed to my new fuse block (16 circuit) . use the stock fuse block and just add some more fuses with a new feed , that should give you what you need ,easy install and pretty inexpensive .

I always run 30-amp fuse for DLIDFIS and fuel pump (1 each). If you're blowing fuses, either you have ashort somewhere down the line or are you using one 15amp for 2 circuits.

painless is not cheap. try other brands such as E-Z wiring and such. Painless is well known but its not widely used in the domestic world.

small painless fuse blocks ( 7 circuit w relays )are pretty cheap and are used for most domestic cars , e z is not bad but its hard to find small auxiliary units they make a 7 circuit with 2 40amp relays for 80.00 not to pricey .my universal unit by painless was 125.00 and i used all the stock leads that came from original fuse block and had plenty to spare for extras (electric fans , 6a boxes , etc )

This is something I would like to do as well. My Holley fuel pump is hogging up all my amperage.
Glad to see you stopping by the forum Wacky. Are you getting the itch to get a repu?

Although not a complete re-wire

For my electric fan I ran power from + alternator to inline fuse to a relay.

For fuel pump I ran power from the fusable link block behind passenger seat, to another inline fuse to another relay.

Try to keep the newer higher amperage add ons away from the ignition switch wiring.

Thanks for all the response. I'll probably hit the junk yard soon and look for a relay fuse control box. Will most likely mount where old emissions control module was, keep it inside and close to igniton and combo switches. Will abandon existing fuses in engine compartment. Plan on intercepting outgoing voltage for circuits from ignition and combo switches. Will use these outputs to power relays. Relays will be supplied from batt or alt and turn on to control outgoing amperage to everything except brake lights and turn signals. The goal is to keep it simple, not rewire the whole truck, and keep the system close as possible to the factory wiring diagram.

for what its worth:
With DLDFIS and no emissions box i was able to remove enough redundant wiring to fill a milk crate. Following relays and associated wiring were removed: ignition, distributor, short, kickdown, and retard. all from the engine compartment. Only relay left is the horn relay.
Also updated to series 4 RX7 alt, internally regulated.

Been waiting a long time to do this.

look for a RWD GLC and grab the engine fuse box/mount. this is similar to a FC but with less fuses. Run 10 gauge amp wire from the starter to this fuse box.these are pocket items from boneyard btw if you know what I mean
