My blinged out distributor
I decided I wanted to start cleaning things in the engine compartment so I pulled my distributor out. I have two extra distributors so I figured I would do those at the same time. I completely disassembled them down to the body.
Meticulously cleaned all of the parts in my parts washing tank. Then the bodies were blasted with glassbead in my sandblasting cabinet. The oil seal which sits under the breaker plate was replaced with a mazda seal. The o-ring thats on the outside of the shaft was replaced as well. The distributors were then reassembled using mobil1 synthetic grease. I replaced all of the hardware with stainless steel buttonhead bolts with flat and lockwashers. The heads of the bolts have been polished to a mirror finish. I had the clips that hold the cap on and the timing adjustment plate chrome plated. I also painted the vacuum bodies gold with Duplicolor hi temp paint. Lastly the distributors were each installed and tested in my repu. The mechanical advance works perfect. I couldn't check the vacuum advance because I'm running an IDA weber and not set up for it. So now I have 2 extra distributors for sale for $200.00 each. Does not include cap or rotor.
Attached are a few pics. I can email additional pics if needed.

Hey Max...thats real sweet looking..I got the same idea over the weekend trying to clean up the wiring to the dist. I was trying to eliminate the ballast resistors and wiring but ran into a "long crank" issue. The engine would fire up after a few attempts of very long cranks at times causing the plugs to foul..On Sunday I hope to look at your setup and see how this can be done as I have seen the majority of the cars with the ballasts removed.I hope I get my carb and taillights back by Sat. and can rush to the alignment shop and also get the insurance squared away...If for some reason I dont have my truck that day it would be a real bummer...I have been waiting for this event...I know you already have the next event planned..lol...I am no longer going to store my cars for the "special "day...Life is to short..Art

Very nice, Max. Now I can't wait to get the RX-8 out of my shop so I can get to work on the little details like this on my wagon... and maybe start my next truck.
Neal.
