Do you want rear disc brakes?

ok a friend of mine has converted his nissan 4x4 over to rear disc from a trooper. we have been talking about the repu setup and he has asked me to see how many people would want this setup. Basicly you would buy the adapter rear backing plate from him, he said 140$-150$ for both sides. Then you would need to get the rotors,calipers and misc hardware from said year trooper. remove your stock stuff and install the new rear disc. Im just trying to get an idea so he can have a idea, He said he would do it if 4 or 5 sets were sold. when I get the repu int. back in ill head out there and we will do this setup on my 74 and ill get pics so you will see what your getting and what it looks like after.

I would want rear disc brakes

But I'd also want front vented disc brakes. And would really want a kit to do both.

Also, when you convert a rear drum truck to rear disc, you have to change the brake master. Since rear drums require a constant low pressure of brake fluid in the rear brake lines (like 10psi). And our REPU does too. The master cylinder takes care of this and if you install rear discs with a master cylinder supplying a constant low pressure to the rear caliper brakes, then the rear calipers will slowly grab more and more and eventually lock up the rear wheels.

And, rear calipers require much more brake fluid than what drum wheel cylinders use. So, another reason to install a master cylinder that has more fluid capacity for the rear calipers.

So, if you're doing the rear disc and master cylinder, might as well go all the way and do front vented rotors too. I HAVE COOKED the front brakes doing a caynon run with the Miata club. It was not fun and it was scary as the pedal got softer and brakes slowed the truck less and less. And the front pads smoked real good too. Had to pull over and wait for them to cool. The fluid boiled as well.

caliper mounts

Hey David, I have already worked out the geometry for the caliper mount, just have not yet figured out the thickness/offset. I wish I would have known before I shipped you the box. Do you have any way to open a .DXF? My design was going to be considerably less expensive, and would save you a considerable amount of trouble. I don't mind letting someone else finish the project! I seem to be a little short on time- for now. Getting SCARY slow at work!
