FINALLY!!!

I just had to gloat... feel like a new father (I know, there's really no comparison to that, relax...). Just got her last week (see my new album in the gallery- kanseirotary). I finally have a nice one!! Now all the NOS parts I have been hoarding have a proper truck to use them on! Plenty of work to do to make her stock again, including pulling the freshly rebuilt (less than 20 miles!) engine and repainting over the orange (with black), changing the interior back to stock, and putting my freshly powdercoated stock wheels on her, etc., etc. I just can't get over having one that runs, drives, stops, AND looks great with NO rust! And it is even in the medium green I wanted- Olivine Green (I think that's the proper name, my paint books are all buried right now). I've had four REPUs, but never one like this! Now I know what all the genuine enthusiasm is about. It's one thing to love these trucks, another to own one, and yet even another thing to have one that is more or less done and just plain works! I feel like a different person! And I can't stop looking out in the driveway...

Well, just wanted to share my excitement and show her off! Keep in mind, she's not done...

Neal.

Congrats on the new ride That is a great looking truck. It looks jusrt like mine only mone has been lowered(I am not happy someone did this),and mine needs a bit of paint to make it perfect. Also someone painted my front bumper over the chrome, and it looks like crap.

I have no idea what the color is called, but that is the same color I have.I really like those wheels you have on the truck.I have a set of new b2200 alloys on mine, and they look good, but I like the styled steel wheels better.

Good luck with the resto.it looks like you have atleast another one sitting there,as a brother. Thanks for the pics.

Thanks Guys...

I have had her here since last Tuesday and I still can't wipe the smile off my face. And of course, even with this Michigan Indian Summer, it's like 36 degrees except for a few hours at mid-day when it hits maybe 45. Still a bit brisk for any longer duration tinkering. I can't wait until Spring gets here!! Plus, I just got my old '80 Leather Sport RX-7 back and I'm picking up a decent '74 RX-4 Wagon in a few months, so I really can't wait for the warmer weather!!

Chris- thanks. I like the wheels too, but they are going bye-bye Thursday. Powdercoated stockers are going on with trim rings and all. Those Toyota wheels are going to a good friend of mine- for his Toyota, where they belong.

Charles, I appreciate the compliment, but I'm not so sure she looks better than Little Red, although I will say that my truck is every bit as straight and solid as Craig's (Max's) old truck or yours, having seen Craig's in person at Max's house a couple years ago, and yours several times now. You guys just don't know how long I have been wanting a pre-'77 darker green truck now... and it is like being on top of the world finally having it. Now to dig out those bushings and everything else I have squirreled away...

Thanks for the compliments again!

Looks very nice! And that is some strange air box on the carb.

What size are those wheels? They look huge compared to my 14's!

Congrats Neal.......

........I know the feeling. I felt the same way when I bought Craig's truck. I couldn't stop staring at it...heck I still do it. Your repu looks real nice and I'm sure its a lot nicer in person. Keep us updated with lots of pics. If your ever out my way stop on by again. I'm all healed up now so I'll be a much better host. Oh ya, did you look at that other repu from [socalrx7club] while you were in Chicago?

Tom- The wheels that are on it right now are actually Toyota 4Runner wheels- 15". The rears look huge because the tires are something like 215/75R15. The thing looks like a John Deere diesel tractor sitting here. The fronts are a smaller profile, I think because the ones that were originally up front (and match the rears) would probably rub on the fender lips. The strange airbox is borrowed from another engine I bought from the guy that had a 5" Camden supercharger on it (that's a whole other story). That funky box fits on the Holley that is on my truck now (pitching that POS as soon as I get a stocker rebuilt) and I'll put a factory air cleaner on it then.

Max- Yeah, she looks pretty good in person, not perfect, but about as close as you can come to it in a 32 year old truck that isn't 80% NOS like yours. Mine was repainted in 1999, just before the previous owner was transferred to Chicago from Florida. Been garaged and only driven about 100 miles or so since the respray (if I remember correctly). Truck is originally from out your way somewhere. Aren't they all? I was actually in San Diego about two months ago, and wanted to call you and Bill, but had no free time this trip at all, and didn't really have free access to a car, either. I wanted to at least call and say Hi while I was in town, but then I knew I'd really want to get together. I know I will be back out that way (Anaheim) in 2008 for the safety show again (in Chicago next year), and I'm thinking about driving out this time and making a real vacation out of it. As for the other REPU for sale in Chicago- never went and looked at it. PM'd the guy a few times. It has a 12A in it, Holley carb (I think), and some other mods I didn't care for and he wants $3k. I was more than willing to give quite a bit more than that for mine. She's what I really wanted anyways.

Neal.
