I like the air filter! If that was my Cosmo, you wouldn't be able to see the garage. The teenage kids next door think my rotary's are cool!
Congrats on getting the Repu started!

Woo Hoo

Yet another REPU with life again. It is really good to see. I know the feeling.. When I first bought my REPU, the previous owner hadn't finished up a Auto->Manual swap... so I had to... After finding all the parts needed (thanks everyone on this forum who helped, BTW!) I was able to get it started, and drive it around the block, once... The carb still has serious issues, to this day... and that's why I'm going to re-swap a 13b T2 in...

So Congrats!!

Cleaned out

All old Mazdas must smoke like hell before they are brought back to life. I gaze at these pictures and totally identify with your moment.

Is it ready to drive?

...and the big question: will it clean up?

Fresh oil, fresh tune and down the road she goes! Is the smoke lessening? (sure hope it does!) Time for the can of Power Foam and more blackness!!!

i'm sure the smoke will dissapate. it never used to smoke that much, but i expected smoke since i did the ATF treatment, and then it took about 1/2 pint motor oil down the carb to get it started. I haven't started it again yet. The guages weren't working so i only let it run just long enough to warm it up. After i shut it off and let the smoke clear i found a fuel leak from the carb. it was dripping all the way down to the floor. Good thing i didn't run it long. woulda hated for the exhaust heat to have ignited it. I fixed the fuel leak, and got the guages working again by filing all the corrosion off the fuse contacts. My only trouble now is that my brake lights, and blinker aren't working. I've had this problem before and its been the something about the hazard switch. I think one of the relays gets stuck.

Try this

Try cleaning your ground contact on the front bumper. If the bumper has no ground the lights will not blink. Hope this works for you.

That's a good idea seeing as how the previous owner of my truck atatched some fittings to the bumper bolts (for a tow bar maybe?) and they're sorta rusty. My only blinker prob I've ever had was with the relay itself. I simply filed the metal glob flat on one of the contacts, and made sure the pitted one was flat as well. I also retentioned the spring and it's worked fine since '97. I also did this on my Cosmo last year. I think all those relays are serviceable. Heh, I got a smirk on my face as I typed that (take that all you new trucks :) )

blinker relay

diconnected all the connectors to the combination switch, then banged the relay a few times with a rubber mallet. working again. i just have to remember not to put on the hazards.
