'Obsolete' Ford parts specialty house

The courier parts work fine...just gotta find 'em! Start researching 'obsolete' Ford parts sources....

77 has a different part number....

In 77 mazda changed the part number, I can`t find a parts supersession from the earlier number, but they just might work, pn 3874-28-330, still available from your dealer.

Did the part itself change in 77 with the new generation mazda truck or is it just truly a part number change craig?

change

thats what I can`t determine, its possible there is a parts supersession but I can`t find anything in my database. Its more likely that the part was changed, such as a different material used in its manufacture and there is no direct supersession. that doesn`t mean that it won`t work. lots of 77 and later parts are now used by mazda as replacement parts.

That is a GOOD part number and works with REPU. $5.69 each and special order at dealer took 4 days to arrive. I'm attaching pics of 194,000 mile used stock original bushing and new bushing. The used one is compressed and mangled pretty good but you can still get the idea that the new bushing is the right part. It slides on the front leaf spindle sitting here at my desk just fine. Size is right on taking severe compression of the used bushing into account. THANKS again craig for coming up with another excellent Mazda Factory part number!

followup

All 12 new rubber bushings lubed with white lithium grease and installed. Nice tight fit. Looks good. Good movement of leaf spring.

The rear of my REPU is getting pretty loose feeling, I am going to probably replace the bushings this winter. How much work is it to get the old bushings out? Hopefully nothing at all like the bushings in the front lower control arms!

12 bushings!?!? Is that right? That seems like an awful lot of them. I need to get under there and start planning this project.

It took some work to get the spindle and shackel nuts off. Sprayed them with PB B'laster a few days before hand. I used my breaker bar with proper size socket and slid a 4 foot pipe over the breaker bar and that got them loose. Then I knocked and pulled the spindle shaft and shackels off and most of the bushings were seized onto the shafts so I used my vice and channel locks to get it off. Just lube and twist :-)

12 is right. Each leaf spring has two for the front spindel and four for the rear shackels. It's a very worthwhile bushing to replace. No more vagueness or wandering of the rear suspension. Those were the original bushings in there and they were crushed and malformed!

Leaf Spring Bushings

Anyone wanting to take on this project, I have 1 set of bushings on ebay now. 12 bushings, enough for one truck. New. I will sell them to members for 45.00 shipped. Right now I have 3 sets. I should be getting more in. Let me know if anyone is interested. crgj@comcast.net.

After month of putting off this project I finally replaced all the rear bushings this afternoon. If I had realized it was going to be so easy I would have done it months ago! Actual work was about 2 hours and that included me figuring out how to rethread the tip oif a bolt my friend mashed hammering it out. On a scale of 1-10 for difficulty I give this project about a 3.

Resulting effects are that my braking is greatly improved. Before it took very little brake pressure to lock a back wheel and I would never slow all that quickly. Now it takes every bit of effort I have to lock the back wheels and braking feels very strong! My repu now actually feels safe! What it didnt completely fix is some power and brake steer I get. Full throttle it turns one direction slightly, let off and it pulls the other way. Not bad in town but on the highway at anything over about 60 it can start to make things a little scary. Probably have something loose in the front end I need to take care of.
