stripped control arm bolt!

So I found my first real problem with my repu. I was under the truck and noticed the drivers side lower control arm bolt was loose. I went to tighten it but immediatly recognized both the bolt and nut were stripped. I going to try and find a replacement castle nut today since it looks like I may be able to get it down to the good threads (about 1/2" is messed up). I thought it was just a long bolt but it has a collar at one end that bolts to the control arm and a single bolt through the middle of the "bolt" at the other end. I dont have a picture of it removed because once I pull it out Im going to have to compress the springs and I want the truck movable until I goto replace the part. So here are my questions:

1) What is this part called? Im calling it a control arm bolt but its not a simple bolt?
2) I know they made changes to the 77 suspension from earlier models. Am I looking at a 77 only part? Any suggestions for other similar vehicles that may have this same part?
3) Anyone have a 77 parts truck with a drivers side control arm bolt thats good?

Front side of control arm bolt (good threads).

Back side (stripped) of control arm bolt.

LOWER control arm shaft

Replaced mine here:

http://mazdarepu.com/board/viewthread.php3?FID=8&TID=1698

It's a mazda part. Be sure to put in new bushings. MOOG sells them. You can also buy new castle nuts from thenuttycompany.com

Sweet! I was a bit worried there for a bit. I found some on rockauto.com but the picture looks a bit different that what your thread shows (and what mine looks like). The ones I saw had single holes on both ends where ours have a double bolt end. Im gonna call hoping the stock image just doesnt match. thanks alot!

That is the upper control rod.

You can also buy a die and run the die over the threads to clean them up.

Both mazda and ford were worthless as far as looking up let alone finding old parts for this truck (or the courier).

Anyone have any other resources for parts for my truck? Parts trucks? If not Im going to start looking into repairing it as best I can...

--You may have some success with a VIN#-specific parts search, provided you can locate a helpful Mazda Parts manager willing to pursue this... it has been possible to get parts from Japan this way on occasion in the past...

That is a great thread with all the part numbers -> bookmarked! I did manage to get a part # out of the guy from mazda but no luck so far finding the actual part.

Mazda lower control arm shaft - # 3874-34-431

I guess this is the joy of owning a 30 year old vehicle that was only made for 4 years in low numbers. By comparison, this makes my GSLSE seem like a breeze to find parts for!

thanks --Erik

Ah, crap!

How did I manage to transpose 'lower' into 'upper'? D'oh!

...let me know if you need Mazda part #'s for any of the lower bits...

Best, K.

Im quite sure if I needed the upper control arm shaft, I would only be able to find the lower. What did they make 1 lower shaft for every 10 uppers they made?!?!

I have the lower control arm shaft. They cost $141.65 new from the dealer. I'll sell it for $160 shipped and insured.
