RE: rear end width and lsd diffs

With all of the talk about trying to get different rear ends with lsd and all, this winter I am going to try and mount an RX-8 complete rear subframe and suspension. 4.44 lsd gears from the factory. I have located one and am going to measure it from hub to hub, but the advantage is that the subframe is pretty much flat, so it should not be too hard to build some brackets to mount it. If the width is ok, I will start and will post pictures of the progress, which should begin right after seven stock. Besides a turbo-charged truck needs all of the handling it can get, not to mention bigger brakes!

Located one...?!?

...from a wrecked '8' ? I'm sure I'm not the only one around here who is curious just what all could be exchanged from the rx-8 to REPU... besides that rear subframe system...

What did you have to give?

Another idea....

...if that doesn't work out, but the ratio is what you are after is to pull the ring and pinion from an '87 or '88 B2600 4x4 front differential- only other Mazda diff I am aware of with 4.44 gears. My friend did that swap in his E-Modified Rotary Miata (now has a 13B bridgeport) and seemed really happy with it.

Hey Neal,

Do you think it would be possible to see what your buddy did w/ his Miata? I"ve been fascinated with rotary miatas for a good long while now and would love to see how he did his. You just don't see too many of them around.

Well, what exactly do you want to see or know? He used to have his site up (www.rotarymiata.com) for about two years- showed the entire buildup, the autocross results, etc. He took it down last year. I keep telling him to put it back up, but to be honest I think he got tired of all the questions. He used to tell me about people writing him asking tech advice on how to build one, wanting "drop-in" kits, etc. Neither Alan nor I have much patience, so I can only imagine how quickly he got tired of "weekend warriors" writing him wanting to be hand-held through the process of building their own. I am personally waiting for the newer body styles to come down in price before I build one myself- except mine is going to be a daily-driver kind of car- A/C, power steering and windows, the whole deal. Makes Alan cringe. He hates all of that! Alan is nothing but a racer at heart, so I really get his panties in a wad when I tell him "...no! You have to add more weight! Bring on the accessories!". He's a trip...

Hey Draggin'...

B2200 diff with an RX-7 FB diff? What exactly do you mean? B2200 housing, ring and pinion and an RX limited slip clutch pack, or the other way around? All you said is two diffs- you didn't mention what parts from which unit...

The Torsen LSD option is on it's way

Chris is making a kit to sell us, buyer just supplies the Torsen and have the rear end shop install it all for you with included instructions. Using stock REPU r&p, carrier, housing, axels, + 3rd gen torsen.

duh .. sorry i was in a hurry

Yeah, i meant the whole b2200 rear end.. (housing etc..) with the first gen pumpkin.. i'm not sure what the specs on the rear end of the b2200 are.. i can see if my buddy that works for mazda can get em. but i think it also used a 4.10

the thing about this rear end, is that it may be wider. since i was into the minitruckin scene.. lots of guys would swap to the old courier/repu rear end because they said it gave them a couple more inches of tire clearance..

but the first part about the FB lsd into the B2200 housing is tried and true.. Judge Ito has done it on trucks in Jersey and I know a guy in the bay area that did it for a truck they swapped a 20b into..

one rear end that always interested me when i had my b2600i was the isuzu spacecab rear end since some came with rear discs.. but i have no clue if they have lsd available for them..

Brad, that would be very nice to have a kit for the 3rd gen lsd.. and being able to keep the tough repu rear would be nice.. $$$$ but nice..!
