Steering shaft bushing wanted
I have a steering wheel that squeeks when the cab warms up on a hot day. I took the wheel off and there is no bushing in there, the bushing that goes between the shaft and the tube. If anyone has one they would part with please let me know at dhood15277@yahoo.com.
I figure the bushing also spaces the wheel off the housing, so the plastic parts rub together when they heat up. I've looked for bushings in the yards but it appears each year and model has a different diameter. I've got three bushings so far ranging about 3/4 inch to 1 1/2 inch diameter. None fit right.

I'll have to take a look...
if anyone should have a spare it should be me. I just can't picture off the top of my head what bushing we are talking about. I'll take a look at my manuals when I get home and look at one of the lawn ornaments in the morning to see if I got a spare of two.

for the 74 truck shows part number 0259-32-071, sorry can`t check the warehouse, you`ll have to call your dealer.

Have same prob with my !!!
Kick i got same problem with my Rx2, The Steering wheel seems to be lose , but it is the bushing thatīs worn out...
I wonder how the previous owner have been driving...

My steering wheel squeeks too! I wonder if anybody has one that doesnt? I might have to pull mine apart one of these next few days and see if the bushing is just shot. Can probably add some grease to quiet it down no matter the condition of the bushing.

Summer again and the squeeking is getting to me bad. Here are a few pictures what I am talking about.

The '77 steering column is much smaller than previous years. It measures as follows:
Outside: 1.059 IN = 26.92 cm
Inside: .981 IN = 24.92 cm
The bushing shown in the pic is numbered "220" on the top of the flange. It is too big to fit into the column, and would be too big for the turn and headlight switch to fit over. If anybody needs this size, I have two. They measure as follows:
Flange OD 1.172 IN = 29.88 cm
Barrel OD 1.069 IN = 27.15 cm
Barrel ID 0.645 IN = 16.38 cm
The steering shaft itself is 0.667 IN = 16.92 cm.
All the other bushings I have are much larger.
If you have a smaller bushing, please sound off. If you want, I can trade some other stuff from a 75 parts truck I had.
It doesn't look like this kind of bushing wears out. I think its one of those things you only need one of in your lifetime, just don't know what happened to my one!

Can't you get any of those steering parts off of the B1600/1800 series or the Ford Couriers of that era?

Thats why I have about 3 or 4 different sizes, they are from different models and years. Strange that every year seems to be different. The yards in our area don't have anything at the moment, and I look regularly.

I picked one up at the dealership for $11 about 6 months ago. They had to order it.

That's a needle bearing. Like what the pilot bearing is.
I need one too for my 74! So the dealer can order them?

Brad, I'd be happy to send you any of the bushing-bearings I have, just let me know what the dimensions are and I'll see if one of my extras would fit your 74. I got the special order from mazda today, and it is not a needle bearing like the one that was originally in there. Instead, it is like a bushing from a later rx-7, just molded plastic that makes contact at four places around the circumference. I'll see if it even fits this weekend, and if not, back to the dealer to get my $12 back. I don't see why it really has to be one of those needle bearings anyway, I just want the squeek to go away. The turn indicator switch pretty much keeps the shaft centered in the tube, but I don't like the idea of wearing out the little plastic pieces on the combo switch. If there is another part number, I'd like to have it. The part number I just got is 8871-49-101, says lot 4F01. It could be an updated part number or replacement part supposing the needle bearings could cost a lot more to make.

i just made one for mine and my dads truks out of teflone and so far no squeeks or wiggles if any one else wants one just let me know it took all of about 10 minutes because i wasnt concerned with appearence only with fit i had to put mine in with a socket and a hammer and its worked perfect until that electrical nightmare started
