there was some

old school factory door and trunk locks and mazda keyes with the red jewel type insert with old school m on the keyes that went for a ton of money on ebay.com several weeks ago.

i think if you can get a nice shift knob done for us REPUheads that the rest of the old school ROTORheads would fork out some dough to buy some. Sure ebay would sell some nice shift knobs for this tight market. Can also advertise on http://www.rx7club.com and http://www.thepartstrader.com/CarPage.cfm?DCID=101&PCID=101 to get Return on Investment.

I'd REALLY like a new shift knob when I drive my REPU to parents house for Xmas. Of course I'd also like a new fiberglass lower valance too. Gotta call Rob Golden @ Pineapple Racing and see if he will make copies for us.

Hey Klaus . . .

I wonder . . .

I know you've got one direction on the glass knob thing already but is it possible to get that rounded-edged triangular shape like we talked about in the phoenix blue with the cicle M etched/blasted on the top. And then maybe sealed somehow so it doesn't get a bunch of muck in the etched out area?

Or is the laser thingy the only option you're considering at this time?

I was considering

a number of options... but it's a question of time and $$$ investment, vs. success/ turnaround time. These days, more than ever, I'm struggling to do what I must just to keep the ball rolling...
"Phoenix Blue"--specifically-- is an issue unto itself, in terms of the particular shade, and what's (not) available in borosilicate glass. Laser imaged (custom) dichroic is nice, but spen-dy... As is having custom millefiore cane made. I did take a step towards making that variety of detailed image cane myself, but I'm a novice at that technique... and color is expensive, too! (About $50/lb.)... Just FYI: 'Mille's' typically cost at least $3/ gram... and an entire cane of one design might weigh 1000 grams... of course, this would provide thousands of little image slices, however... even at a discount in bulk, it's a chunk. The result could be very, very cool though! Imagine a three-dimensional, miniature glass image of a rotor, suspended in the top of your 'knob...
If you're still wondering what a millefiore is, try searching the term--and perhaps common misspellings--on the 'net...

Oh yeah...

...shapes (like rounded-off triangular) aren't really the issue... certainly possible... at this point, the hole for the insert is, as is investment funds, especially for decorative options. Blasting/etching: sure, if you're equipped. I'm not, I own zero cold-working equipment...

Hehe, I've got a sandblaster.

That's about the extent of what I can do :)

I've got a lot of stuff I've talked about and haven't done yet before I think I can take on another project I'll never actually finish :)

To catch a glimpse of that 'laser thingy's potential:

Go check out www.dichroicalchemy.com , then let your imagination run...

i would consider that if it didn't have the 6-speed shift pattern on it.
