looking for courier parts
Greetings! My name is Shane and I just bought a '74 Ford Courier. The guy I purchased it told me about this site as a good source for finding parts for the truck. I am in need of some parts so hopefully some of you may be able to help me out or at least point me in the right direction. If I ask stupid questions just bear with me as I am new and about the only thing I know about these trucks are that the fenders, grilles and drivetrains are different.
What I'm looking to find--
Hood
Courier Grille
Windshield plus gaskets and/or weatherstripping for all the glass
Courier front bumper
Courier tailgate
heater controls with dash trim
and any/all light lenses (I believe my taillights are different from Repus)
Is it my understanding that some of this may be available NOS? Any help finding this stuff would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
-Shane

Search...
...for suppliers of 'obsolete' Ford parts. Also, there's a new courier forum someone mentioned in the 'Non-REPU' section...

Thanks for the replies! Repu- I'm interested in the hood and gate, but the shipping from cali is gonna hurt. I'll keep you in mind if I can't find something a little closer to VA. I've gotten a couple of emails too, the response has been great I wasn't expecting to get any hits this quick, this site is awesome!! Let me see if any of those guys are closer to home-- one guys says he has everything I need and the hood and tailgate are NEW, which I find incredible!
Klaus-- are you saying just google obsolete ford parts??? Thanks for the tip on the Courier forum. I saw that post on here and registered there too and put a post up on that site as well.
Like I said this site is awesome! I thought it was going to be hard and take a while to find any parts for my courier. Thanks guys!!

Thanks dan! Its the hood that concerns me because of the size and they tend to get damaged when shipped. My friend who works at a salvage yard won't even ship(receiving or sending) a hood anymore because they get damaged so frequently.

Good idea:
...googling for 'obsolete Ford'; I've never tried that... let us know how it works!
What *did* work for me in the past, for bits identical for Courier/REPU, was when I happened upon parts houses specialised in dealing in various 'obsolete' parts inventories... including one or two that were Ford-specific.
I think what I did was to research places I found selling certain similar/other such items on Ebay...
I looked into hood shipping not too long ago, and I discovered that, due to dimensions alone, just about every option was deemed 'freight': exorbitantly expensive! The one exception is Greyhound -- and you *know* they'll lay that big box flat in the bottom of the bus, and likely pile stuff on top... just for starters!
But, they are the cheapest...

While it will a weight cost to cover the shipping, if one made a box frame out 1x6 lumber, covered the box with 1/4" plywood and added 2-3 1x4s across the plywood, then bubble wrapped the hood inside the box, it should safely make it to it's destination. The extra expense involed in building the shipping box and weight penalty would more than offset the cost of bodywork to repair any shipping damage.

Didn't think about that. That's exactly how we receive replacement glass at work. Have to check into that,

Better yet...:
Is there a 'replacement glass' crate of ideal size for REPU/Courier hood shipment already in use 'out there' that we can identify, and maybe track down...???
