WTB: rear bumper

If anyone happens to have one that is in decent shape w/ the mounting brackets, I'm interested. It doesn't need to be painted or anything, but I would prefer it to be straight w/ little to no rust.

I just bought my repu about 2 months ago and it didn't have one.

Thanks!

bumper

rear bumper could be MADE with some angle iron for brackets, and square tubing for bumper itself.

i've looked at doing a rear bumper out of aluminum. 1/4" thick everything. Could be done as a bolt together but welding bracket to bumper would be a cleaner look. some places sell aluminum for a deal, especially on ebay.

I would prefer something that is factory or close to it, but I'm not opposed to a custom. I don't know a thing about metal fab, so welding one up myself is not an option for me.

A nice slim design or low profile type bumper w/ hitch provision would be ideal, but I have yet to see one.

They were *all*...

...'dealer' (aftermarket) add-ons; to my knowledge, no REPU's came into the U.S. with rear bumpers installed... hence the various different versions.

Yeah, Klaus is right...

A good friend of mine who worked at a dealership back when our trucks were new said that they didn't have bumpers or mirrors (at least not the earlier ones) when they hit the ports. If they made it to the dealerships without either of those, they just pulled whatever they had off the shelf, or robbed something off another truck (even if it was a different make) from the lot if they thought the REPU might sell first. I have two or three extra bumpers, maybe one of them loose. How much of a hurry are you in to get one? I'll look for the loose one tomorrow (it's already dark here), but I have the one on my green truck (I'm installing another one), just look under kanseirotary in the photo gallery, and I know I have a nice round tube one (about 4 or 5 inches in diameter) with sealed ends and a hitch ball welded on if you may want one like that. The shipping is going to kill you, though, unless you're anywhere close to me in Michigan.

Neal.

decisions, decisions...

that's a lot of good info. i didn't know that there wasn't a "factory" bumper per se. nor side mirrors for that matter.

i'm not in any rush to get a bumper, but it is one of those "nice to have" parts, so i'm looking around to see what's out there.

you guys are amazing w/ all the info you know!

pics would be great!

Bumpers

If your REPU doesn't have a rear bumper yet and you have been letting the tailgate all the way down, without the chains attached, to stop on the rubber bumbers, keep in mind, that when you do that with a bumper installed, the tailgate will now crash into the bumper, leaving a dent!

thanks for the advice

fortunately, i have the chains and tailgate bumpers on my truck. however, the chains are a little rusty, but that's nothing new and i haven't examined the bumpers to see how dry they are. but i appreciate the advise!
