REPU Re-conversion to stock

Some parts to get my truck out of "barely runs" non-stock mode.

I have un-converted my repu from a Toyota corola 3KC (1.2 L 4 Cylinder)to an unknown 12A from a 74 RX-4 (With front spacer on cover to cross-mount)

A previous owner had ruined the harness for the truck, and I don't have any that will plug into the chassis plug. I am currently running with a wired points distributor, with the rx-4 coil harness, alternator, and two ported vaccuum lines to the distributor. Exhaust is stainless pipe about 3' back from the manifold rearwards with a 2" turbo muffler just aft of the axle.

It goes, sounds like a chainsaw or small plane, but isn't quite yet a daily driver. LOL.

I am also interested in a 4 port 13b intake, carb, exhaust manifold, block parts, etc. and a battery box. (the previous person also lost that, in favor of an engine bay box high, right fender/firewall corner. There just isn't any room there for a battery, with any rotary.

1.) Engine harness
2.) Battery Box
3.) Stock 13B Intake manifold, Carb to Engine &
"rat's nest" vaccuum stuff
4.) 13B engine, core, block parts, rotors, eccentric, etc.

I am located in south-central Idaho. Thanks.

My $0.02 :

I'm very sorry, but I have no extra battery boxes which are anywhere near intact. IMHO, there's no point in trying to assemble a 'stock' exhaust; RB header specific to REPU setup for the 13B of your choosing a much better investment! Likewise, I'd ditch the very idea of a stock emissions/vacuum line setup; no point... get the block-off plates! I *may* be able to locate an engine harness for you, but give me some time...
You definitely want the electronic dizzy. You'll need to slightly modify the alternator bracket, and/or go with a different mounting bolt location to fit. That muffler you're using: It *will* blow out in short order; a muffler designed to withstand the rotary's pulse and heat from the get-go is the only thing that will really be quiet as well as last, in the long run. No glass packs will last. Many mufflers will actually amplify the metallic edge of the tone! Again, RB makes the most desirable muffler and pre-silencers, IMHO... (and Mazdatrix sells 'em...)

I've heard of early rx-4's having the 12A, but I've never seen it, and I was under the impression all that were sold here in N. America had the 4-port 13B...???

If you want or need 4-port 13B core(s), I *may* be your man... but, you'd have to come pick 'em up, as well as agree on a price... I have several of the early rx-4 13B variety, as well as a '76 (or later) one...

How about you bring a trailer, and we make a deal on a whole project/parts REPU?

checking in

I was looking for a "respectable attempt" at quiet with the muffler - otherwise I would have a pure manifold-back straight pipe. The rx-4 donor :( (no title, junkyard) had 13b on the firewall. Someone had converted it to a 12a.- hence the front spacers. I have plenty of 12a electronic dizzy's. Points distributor was there for plug-in, I had ignition harness already. I also had to re-core & (re)move the lower radiator hose pipe. Just got an oil cooler that is of a length with the radiator brackets, (variation of 85 gslse) so I can actually take it more than about 7 miles at a stretch. The carb is a hyrbrid from various years 12a nikki, I just grabbed throttlebody, air horn, and lid w/o electronic plugs. Idles high, cold blooded, pops, and has lots of vaccum plug "amputations" (about a half-dozen vaccuum caps). Good thing that:

1.) this isn't my daily driver, and
2.) thesmog police are extint in my neigborhood.

said extinct species will be happy to note, however, that the air pump is on the engine. LOL.

curious, what area would I need to trailer to?

Eugene, OR.

...a bit over 400 miles each way.

(I'd also consider taking a Yamaha SR500 in trade, on the off chance you've got, or know of, a nice one of those...) ;)

Correction; you're east of Boise...:

...make that 500+ miles each way, since you're in Twin Falls...

no motorbike, but a pile of other stuff.

I don't have one of those yamaha motorcycles. I have a friend here that colects motorcycles (honda, indian, & harley), but personally I have mostly mazda mixed rx-7 parts, mazda parts cars (2 Gen 1 Rx-7, 1 Gen 2) & project cars (2 gen 1 rx-7; 1 Jeep Cherokee), 1 REPU, 2 Toyota Motorhomes, 1 Toyota parts truck, a mazda B-2000 parts truck, an International Bus, and an Apollo/dodge motorhome. That and a pile o' PCs. :(

Not much for trade value, eh?

Speaking of motorcycles, do you know of anyone that has a set of carbs off of a late 70's honda (2x) 450cc and (2x) 350cc? I have read that motorcycle carbs work real well for performance (when done right) on small 4-cylinder engines, such as the triumph spit-fire, and I was thinking that might give better tunability, and cost less than, say, a holley or weber upper intake & carb for the gslse intake manifold. The 350cc carbs are a 30mm bore, and the 450cc carbs are a 36 mm bore. The GSLSE Intake runners are primary 30 mm & secondary 36 mm diameters. Honda uses Keihin Carburetors, which have a reputation as being more "street" optimized.

Not offhand.

I'd check with motorcycle salvage yards, and/or Ebaymotors for those, I guess...

Always wondered about the 'Predator' brand name performance carburetor, though... a very simple design, much in common with MC carbs... replaces other kinds of 4-barrels... always been curious if it wouldn't be good on a rotary. (?)

'Those'...

...plus one more(!) of the *early* 1974 -- but converted long ago to an 'odd-fire' Buick V-6 -- variety.

If all you *really* need out of a rolling chassis is 'fair' condition; i.e., are willing and able to do floor pans, etc. -- perhaps my least-together one is for you, after all...?

No engine, no trans., missing bench seat, some bondo/areas needing repair... (sorry, no good B-box, either) -- but, original rotary mounts/wiring/etc. underhood, and could be put together again...

My buddy Mike *might* be interested in your running 'B' truck... (?) (We need pic's though, to see about that...!)

If you can make the trip -- we maight be able to agree on price, and I could hook you up with a 4-port 13B core, and most, if not all of those other bits you need. ;)

(Don't wait 'til gas is $3.50/gallon again!)

Repu Projects Wanted

Good to see some replies. I am currently working on a project for hauling cars (1980 Toyota w/ Tandem axles & 12' Flat bed and ramps), and a friend of mine is wanting to make a trip to montana (about 300 miles away)after some Model T parts. I should be leaving for that this next week. I can take some pics of the B-1600 and e-mail them. If you want to get some pics of the new repu, or un-snowy pics of the other two, I can be e-mailed @ troyjmueller@juno.com or troyjmueller@cableone.net. I would need to have some money from the B-1600 before I would have any to spend on the REPUs, however (funds, you know)

B-Box

I also have a p.u. bed trailer made from a b-1600 (I think)
I bought it from a guy for $350.00, and If someone is interested in a set, it is available. I bought it because it matched my REPU, more or less, and I needed a trailer to haul stuff on occasion. (It has been getting more use as a storage place for my spare & core engines.)

Update on my Project

I posted a couple pics on the gallery of my project REPU. Cureently, it has an early 12A engine w/ front mount spacers (I replaced the toyota 3kc it came with), ribcase 5-speed, re-cored radiator, new hoses and belts, and a custom fabricated Stainless Steel Tail-Pipe. I have an Oil Cooler from a 1984 RX-7 GSL-SE to install, and I need to plug the thermal-reactor pipe flange from the front exhaust.

To do: Fabricate a battery box (Battery against the air-cleaner = wince)
Install Oil Cooler
Re-Rout Battery Cables
Plug Exhaust

Then Drive. It currently runs and drives, but not very far due to lack of oil cooling, and it sounding like a banshee chainsaw on steroids, or a small airplane. Who-whoo.
