emblem

I also was interested in a NEW emblem, but after seeing that one, it doesn't look mint {or even close to it} to me. The shill game just might be up and running.

Looks can be decieving...

...and the deception can run either way, whether intentional or not... Current technology allows for image manipulation... but similarly, poor image quality might not do an otherwise mint piece justice! I just remember the difference between pics I saw, and the reality of the in-person view, with a certain past ebay deal...
These folks could be entirely on the up-and-up... and this emblem could be totally mint... but if it were me, and it was, I wouldn't hesitate to call it 'mint'!
Top dollar's only appropriate for absolute mint quality. Everything else is less.

I too, was very sceptical of the quality.......

of this emblem and I mentioned that in an earlier post. From the looks of the emblem and the quality of the photos, I had reason to believe that it was a less than desireable version.

I requested clearer pics, and "Kevin" sent me about 9 pictures. Many of you recieved the same ones I am sure.

I no longer believe that to be the case.

After reviewing the pictures, I believe what we have here is a genuinely excellent (or as best as I have seen or assume is in existance anyway) specimen. We certainly can't expect that the parts guys, shippers, or handlers of these emblems boxed them up in foam and crates to transport them over the last 20 or so years can we.

I think the reason the quality of the photos are what they are because the seller had no idea that the price would reach what it is or that the interest would be what it is. If he had, I am sure he would have invested a bit of time in presenting it better. Although shill bidding could possibly be going on, it looks like its going to be between two bidders, Craig and Rotarydude. I know Craig is honestly trying to get it for his personal benefit, Judging from Rotarydudes unending search and aquisition of rotary parts, I too believe he wants it as well.

What happens now that the price is really beyond the outer limit of value, and it is now more like a game of poker, in which the bidders must decide how much they really want it and if they are willing to bracket creep it to the point of obtaining it without any more severe pain to their pocketbook. Let's face it, someone must win (if it is winning at all). It is always hard not to justify a little more $ to get something that you want if you really want it.

I know that if I had that emblem and 5 years go by, Having it will be of much more value than what I paid for it. And I also know that I will take much better care of the collection of emblems I do have even though none match the quality or condition that this one appears to have.

I am pulling for Craig, but I certainly can't fault him if he pulls out as the heat of this has me sweating with him.

Be ware Craig !!!

You are going to be snatched off this Repu center emblem...
When rotarydude stops bidding he always comes back at the end of auction and do a last minute bid and goes high,i have seen it before... He really want this emblem too and don´t gone back from it i think... Now he waits like a cobra and when it´s time he go for it...
So you need to be fast at the end and try to match him,if you really want this emblem...

He seems to not care about money if he really wants something...

A warning from the swedé...

God bless you Craig...

Must be nice...

...to have a 60-plus rotorcar collection, be in the rotary-restoration business, and have the funds to back such insane prices on NOS parts as well...
Seems Texas is another rotor epicenter, at least when it comes to oldschool stuff...
As to auction/bidding techniques, well... I would've suggested something completely different. Then again, I'd never have thought to go beyond, say, $50 for such a prize...
Call me cheap, or call me poor.
Definitely makes a guy think what his collected stuff might be worth as parts...

I'm with you Klaus......

As to the elusive luxury of being able to have a substantial collection, the money, and especially the time to pursue collecting and restoring rotary vehicles.

As for having a collection of 60 or so old rotaries.....Although it very well may be true, I think we have at this point little evidence except his "about me" page, which like anything else on the internet, can be a "about my dream page".

He states to contact him for parts, but several people have said that when they did, he failed to respond. He may very well have the means and ability to amass such a collection and just can't seem to part with any pieces of it when it comes right down to it. He certainly has shown his ability and determination to obtain almost at any cost what he desires.

So, unless he (or she, for that matter) communicates in some fashion with the outside world or at least the public rotary enthusiast commmunity, we will remain in the dark about the true personality of this mystery person.

Who knows.......He may be silently amongst us already............

I've paid some high prices for collectible stuff before.... to the point of questioning my sanity.

I feel much better now.... these guys are out of control!

This is nuts!!

Its over

and I get to put it on my truck. Some of you may think I`m nuts and that I should have tried a different tact bidding against dave but I had to find out early what the upper limits were going to be. Couldn`t take a chance of coming in last minute with a too low of a proxy and getting outsniped. I`ve wanted one of these for a long time and have no probem with the price since I have put over $12,000 in my little red repu (thats over a nine year period) and plan on putting my truck in some shows when its all back together.

Thanks to all of you for your moral support, I was really sweating this one. Now that I`m going to have an NOS emblem in my hands I will have a better chance of doing correct appearing restorations.

Congrat's, Craig!

Here's hoping that it meets or exceeds your expectations when you have it in hand! You and your mint red REPU certainly deserve it.
