NOS grill emblem on Ebay!!............

Get the deed, got to mortgage the house to get this one. High bidder is Rotarydude. Is he one of us? Some newbie trid to knock him off like ten times. He probably has a serious bid out there to ward off all attacks.

I will be watching this one for fireworks. But alas, it will be by the sidelines. Man has got to pick his battles.

This is the emblem you need if you want to make repro's. It just looks so sweet and tempting though. It is calling my name.....

I can't hear you..I can't hear you.....

You're sick, Craig!

Eight days left on the auction... and already you've got it up over $200 ??? You're insane! I mean, I can understand wanting it, but this is nuts... just wait, maybe someone in Japan with a faster connection/computer will out-bid you last minute! Not that I would wish it that way for you, but... those $$$ could go far on your truck's restoration in other bits/areas, don't'cha think?
Besides, you wouldn't wanna drive down the road with that emblem on your grill, would you? What if a rock chipped it?
Hope no one else bids on it, and you get it! Best of luck...

you can still be a

REPUholic and have just have one truck. I`ve already got a NOS valance, grille, RE emblem, bumper and hood trim. All the truck wants for christmas is a center emblem to go with the rest of it.

Makes a guy wonder...

...what 'top dollar' to a wealthy Japanese REPU_aholic collector might be, for the likes of your truck...

All I can say is........

YOU GO GUY!!! If this is to be forever in somebody's hands, I'd rather it be one of a buddy's.

As much as it is going to cost an arm or leg, somebody must climb the hill to plant the flag. As soon as the flag is planted, if it is by a trusted individual, we all stand to benefit. I wish so much the winner could get it at $50.00 but that is not to be anymore. As much as we would like it not to happen, the more we promote our interesting sliver of automotive history, the more it (or parts with in it) become(s) worth.

I really believe there are a lot of parts to be had that are at present undiscovered. If these parts are uncovered publicly, these prices are to be expected. If the parts are collected or discovered privately (as was my valance, and a few other parts) the price is (or can be) a lot less.

I still believe that the price of these parts is still clearly what the buyer can bear. And for what it may be worth, is still clearly the best system as it enables all of us to compete for the same parts at our own comfort level. I have paid a steep cost for some parts, and for others I have gotten cheaply.

So with that I say, pay what you can for what you need, and may you get what you need for what you can pay.

I`m going for it...

my truck needs very little in to be mostly NOS, all thats left to buy is ball joints and control arm bushings (and the center grille emblem). I still have to install the NOS brake booster/master cylinder/calipers, proportioning valve, wipermotor/linkage, clutch slave/master, and complete steering box sector/worm gear kit/tie rods and idler arm still in the box.

No shit.

Over $300 already. Sick! I checked out rotarydude's 'about me' page... he's the guy with over 60 rotaries in his collection, near San Antonio, Texas... "with many more for parts". Major Player!
Perhaps he keeps so busy with the cars he doesn't have time to chat here... Too bad, 'cause he sounds like one of us!

Now that the emblem cost's more than a typical truck....

We should step back in the last few days of this auction and examine the photo's more clearly.

If you look close in the top two photo's, on the right side of the emblem, it does not reflect clearly in either pic. There is also a ding or two that show on both photos that implies to me anyway that this is a less than perfect specimen. Although it still appears it is in great shape and one of the better known examples I have seen, all things considered.

I would suggest Craig, if your serious about taking this further, that for your own protection, you demand some VERY CLEAR photo's be emailed or added so you (or we) can clearly critic the true quality of this piece.

I do believe a bit of last minute reflection, contemplation and very close examination is warranted here now that the bidding has reached a Sothenby level.

$380.00 would go a long way to restoring more than a few decent quality run-of-the-mill emblems I would think.....

thanks ken....

I can`t say that I can positively see the dings, but my eyes are not what they used to be. I contacted the seller requesting some pics of the sides of the emblem. If this baby aint perfect I`m done. I`m working on restoring these things for a lot less money and have a couple of really straight emblems that I`m starting with, wanted this one to get an exact color match but at this price it had better be perfect.

I requested some clear pics this morning....

and got this reply in return. He seems to back the quality of the item, and states he would be willing to send pics. The next move would is up to the bidders.

HI NWACO---

Thanks for viewing my auction. Maybe I have confused you. This Emblem has never been on a truck. It was right off the parts shelf. It is excellent (maybe mint) but I NEVER advertise anything I own as mint because it opens up someone to question my auctions. If you are a serious buyer and plan to bid, I will be happy to take more pictures and send them to you personally. No problem there I can do that tonight or tomorrow morning. I also think if I post more pictures in my auction it's unfair to Rotarydude and Rotarydave that have been serious bidders in my auction to offer "more information" to other bidders only for more money to me. I think it's would be selfish on my part when I am more then happy how this auction has gone. I happen to have sold Mazda items to two of the three serious bidders in the past and they have not requested more pictures. I more then welcome your comments or requests. Thanks very much God bless you. Kevin---*

End Quote:-------

Interesting, I don't remember "RotaryDave" weighing in on the bidding anymore than myself.

i see imperfections on that emblem

that look like stone damage and scuffs to me.

take a look at the back of the embelem. at the threads. all those threads are zinc plated but a few from the base. like would happen if a nut was tightened on there.

just my observations of the pictures.

it's current $380 price would pay for a nice weekend wine tasting in Temecula, CA with the girlfriend ! ! ! !

I wonder about Rotarydude....

Well this Rotarydude seems to be a shy man and seems to live in the darkness with his Mazda Rotary collections... Maybe he don´t have the time to wright to all that are mailing to him ?? He also seems to be a wealthy man that can spend a small fortune on old mazda parts... I think that most of your guys here want to know more about this
mysterious Rotarydude... Well i have tryed to contact him and have failed, some of you guys must have sold items to him and i wonder if he then communicates or if he only go the basic way with payments ?? Well let him live his life with his Rotary cars,i know that he been missing some great rotary friends that are fun to talk with and have lots of knowledge about these Rotary cars and Rota pickups...

From a wondering swedé...

5 Days, 5 hours left on the auction...

...and it's at $405.00 ... at this rate, it'll be over a grand by the time this is done! Hey Craig, whaddaya need to get rid of to fund this obsession? I could use another running 13B... (among other things)...
Now I really gotta wonder if I ever had this cat on the phone at one time... I have a vague recollection of someone in Texas with lots and lots of old rotary cars...
I also have to wonder...: The seller is in Texas as well, is he not? What are the odds that one or the other bidder is a shill, used to drive up the price? Wouldn't be the first time such sleazy methods were being used with rotary part auctions on ebay... you never know. I mean, a really crafty seller could easily monitor the 'demand factor' by reading here...
As regards the perfection of the piece: How much of what's visible/not depends on the quality of the digicam used? The other e-ware in between?
Call me a skeptic, but I've definitely learned the hard way that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Craig, that I'm wrong!!!
