Rear Tail Gate FS

I have a faded blue tail gate... poor condition. beat to crap, but with some luck, bondo, or a really good metal worker, it could be saved.

$14 (fourteen dollars) + shipping (probably UPS or Fedex ground and it is yours.

That's an interesting price....!

Not for me at this time, but as 'bait', to get someone motivated with metalworking skills from amongst us, this could be good... How 'bout it? Do we have an experienced (or motivated to learn) oldschool 'panel beater' among us?
First one to demonstrate such skills/desire will no doubt have tons of work for the next decade!

heh..
Sounds like something my dad could do. He is in to the old body work ways, meaning no bondo. Nice to have a body man in the house like that.

Where's your dad located?

And, more to the point: could we interest him in applying his skills to our little rotary beasts? It'd be too cool...!

We live up in Clackamas, Oregon.
I think we could interest him in applying his skills to our little rotary beasts. After all, he is slowy working on my Rx2 body. ;)

Awesome!

I'm fortunate to be sorta close, down here in Eugene... At some point I'll need to get/make an assessment of where things stand on the ultimate restorability issue... which parts from which trucks, and what makes $$$ sense, and what does not... I kinda already know, but in my dreams everything gets saved...
Sounds like your Dad was a panelbeater by trade...? How affordable,(or not), might his services be? Near-term goal: one massaged-straight REPU getting a fresh coat of paint...

Drop my father an email at charlesjb1958@hotmail.com
Do you know anyone that has an Rx3, and Rx4 down there in Springfield, Oregon? I have been talking with a guy named Mike at times over the email, and at one time on rx7club forum he said something about having a buddy that is in to rotary pickups.

Also do you have any parts for a 74 rotary pickup?

Yep, that's Mike...

...whose rx-4's been sitting, engine and trans.-less, at my place, gathering dirt... and whose rx-3 project's also been on hold waaaay too long, in his garage... but I can't blame him! He's a good guy who happens to be house-hunting in a crazy local housing market... I did the same thing a while back... I could've done soooo much with a REPU; instead, I bought a mortgage payment...
But, I do mourn the sorry state of affairs/lack of project progress on both our oldschool dreams... especially tough for me, watching the rx-4 sit, as I do covet it, having previously owned them, and having been the one to sell Mike his first one...
In a 'perfect' world, I'd have a big, new garage/shop building, I'd own Mike's 3 and 4, and I'd be making steady progress on the builds of each as well as a REPU, while driving a new rx-8... in my dreams, anyway!
Gotta win the lottery...
Yes, I do have some parts... let me know what you need, I might have it... can't guarantee that whatever part is in good enough shape, or that I'll be willing to part with it, but perhaps... all depends on what... :)

Another idea:

Might you and your Dad possibly be interested in trading REPU's/parts for the full body restoration of the one I'd be keeping? How about a '69 Chevy Bus? Just some ideas... as I'm pretty broke right now...

Well if we had the place, I think he would be more and happy to help you out, he isn't in to buses though. heh
Right now he is able to do a bit of work on the things we own. Tell we get a nice shop or when a buddys father gets done with his shop then we might be able to work something out. :)

Bed parts needed

I need four of the bolts that holds the bed to the frame. Also need the two tail gate chains and chain covers.

bolts and chains

mazda doesn't sell the bolts anymore. for the bolts i went to orchard supply and bought some grade 8 bolts, grade 8 fat wide washers and some nylox nuts.

i made my own bed to frame bushings since they're nla. went to lowe's home improvement store, plumbing section, found a 5" pipe coupler made out of a soft flexible pastic (looks like high density rubber), cut it the right size, worked great.

i might make and sell some tailgate chain kits next year; i need a good set too.

Chains are an E-Z

junkyard score, whether from a Courier, or other little truck...
A set of nice, non water-and-dirt collecting mesh sleeves to keep 'em from slapping the bed and gate is a bit harder to find... and more nessecary on our REPU's than most any courier!
