dash

Should we assume you are asking about the dash pad ?

I have one like new purchased several years ago. Had it on my truck but put it in garage storage many years ago.

What is your offer ?

pad price

I am a believer that a seller should post a price for their goods. Negotiating is OK, but should be done off-line. Do us all a favor and post a price. You never know, someone may think that $2000 is fair, and pay it! If you post $50, which implies that you would be happy with that, post it! This is America, and we are free to put a price on anything we own. It is not fair of anyone to dispute a posted price. My $.02 worth. I want it, and if I think the price is fair, it will be a done deal.

selling stuff

Sorry, but I disagree.
Asking for pricess to be posted is convenient for the buyer but is not equitable for the seller (who is not in a hurry in any case). This request is usually made by those who rarely sell their NOS REPU parts....

Like I just posted in another thread....

selling parts

I agree with 99% of what ya say. However I only afree that posting an asking price is necessary for commodity parts, ... e.g. parts that I have control over their replacement, i.e. .. I can procure MORE.

If I have a complete set of NOS windshield trim that I "might" part with, or the last remaining NOS hood ... etc., I am more comfortable with just hearing what buyers would like to offer, ( if I am in no hurry to sell ).

Of course, most of the REPU parts are NOT easily replaced / found and so .... I usually ask people to tell me, first, what they feel is a fair price. As you say ....... these offers should be sent to me offline. If they are too low I simply respond with sorry ... NOCANDO

Tis aggravating when I ask someone to send an email with a list of what they want and what they feel is a fair price. Almost without fail, the potential buyer will NOT state his buying price and say, "I have no idea what it is worth". Bull. These people are invariably just a waste of my time...

I too am sick of the bitching about asking prices etc.

just my 2 cents.

I think this all comes down to what your really after. Not placing an asking price tends to give the impression that your just trying to get the most or even more then a fair price. Some poeple really don't know what a fair price would be and can be taken advantage of. I'm in the mindset of a fair price for a good product and will always post an asking price. I have nothing to hide and do not want to take advantage of anyone.

What do you mean bull? I have no idea what a dash pad is worth. How am I supposed to know? Is there a book that values individual parts? I think you don't know what its worth. Thats why you want offers, So you can get the most money for it and thats ok you can do that becuase it is your part.

So I'm revising my ad...

I'm looking for a dashpad. Anyone who has one that wants to sell please PM me or post a price. I will contact you if its a price that is fair.

thanks,

Happy New Year

"Not fair"...

...to 'dispute' an asking price? ?!? All 'negotiating' must take place off-line? ???

If this is indeed America... who makes these rules?

I was under the impression that on this forum, the bottom line for *rules* rested with our Admin. ...

...and it's been my observation that should anyone wish to do business elsewhere, they were always free to do so...

As regards parts valuation: Yes, there were/are parts lists, sheets, books and microfiche with prices for parts. Of course, time has gone by since they were current... and what a fair price might be for rare parts is debatable, and the market can and does seem to vary.

rare parts

alas, another reason I go this route is simply because I am tired of hearing miscreants bitch when I used to post asking prices. Live and learn.

If you buyers want to demand and set criteria for buying rare parts ... then ...... good luck.

Freedom...

...also applies to sellers, as well as (potential?) buyers.

Too many BS artists long since ruined it for anyone that hasn't taken the time to establish personal relationships (read: TRUST) with valued sources, IMHO.

2Wankel...

...are you after a dashpad to have recovered (meaning you are missing one altogether), or do you have a cracked pad (like most of 'em) and want an original one in good condition?

If you don't have a dash pad at all, I have a cracked and split one in my '75 parts truck you can have for $50 plus shipping.

I have one that is cracked to oblivion. Every part of it is cracked. I'm looking for a decent one that is not as cracked as mine so I can recover it. I took the one I had to a place and they said they could not do it. Is that BS or is there a point that you cant recover a dash? Maybe I should post a pick, hmm, wheres my camera.

Well, I'm not an upholstery guy, so I don't want to say at what point it becomes "undoable" as far as recovering goes. My local upholstery guy said he couldn't redo mine, too. I asked him to just try and I'd pay him regardless, even if it looked like crap. I just wanted him to actually try. It turned out OK, though there is some bunching at the corners (look at the recent pics in my gallery), but I think I can fix that. All my guy did was wrap new material over the old, so if a dash pad was split and warped to a point where it is curled up at the split areas, I suppose it may not turn out that well. I plan on sending mine out to justdashes.com in a year or two to have it redone properly, but I know that will cost several hundred dollars, so I'll live with it the way it is and put the money towards other aspects of my projects for the time being.

Looks like I'm going to have to try and redo mine then. The dash looks like it has a foam under the vinyl. Maybe I can take off the vinyl and use that expanded foam from home depot cut, shave, and sand it back to normal. Anyone tried this?

thanks for the replies

that expanding foam would be a good way to do it.. or get some of the foam they use at upholstery shops.. glue it on and shave it down to shape.. then recover.. just gotta make some carboard "walls" when using the expanding foam.. so they serve as a guide and that way it doesnt expand every which way.

dash repair

Yes, you can repair the dash that way. I used polyurethane glue instead of the foam insulation (its just toooo messy). I cut off the bulging vinal off the dash, put some of the glue in and sprayed it with water (water makes the stuff expand more) then sanded it down. the the upholstry shop covered it for me. Looks great.
