Parting a 74......

I need to make room at the shop. I have to clear out a few trucks and that means cutting loose of a few parts. I will be parting out a couple of trucks....a 74 and 75.

I just can't keep the extra frames and beds around. These two have serious cab issues and I need to get on with clearing them out. I also need to clear up a lot of duplicate parts I have stored up around here.

Anyone need any parts?

Of course, 'but'...:

...couldn't hardly be worse for me, timing-wise, for any accquisitions. That said, if Scott (raspyrx7) comes down from Boise to pick up a project from me, perhaps he'd be a candidate for ? , en-route? (See thread in 'Wanted' section...) --K.

yea, I guess one could say I had a few......

But Ontario? Shipping from Washington state would be sporty and I was not really planning on selling the motors. That is the reason I bought the darn things. Motors, hoods, fenders and doors.

Are you after motor parts or a running motor?

No trim rings or tail lights on these trucks.......

but if one was in dire "need" of one to restore an otherwise complete truck, I might be able to "find" such a part...

I have more of the lesser demand parts such as frame parts, suspension parts, cab parts, some interior, and bed(s).

I bought these trucks for those select parts, hoods, fenders, engines, trannies, and a few other parts. It is the cab, frame, and bed proper that I need to move.

I am well aware of the tail light, trim ring, turn signal, valance, hood, fender, hood prop, radio bezel, and door panel demand and those are not the parts available this time around.

Remember, I too am restoring several trucks, and this time I have the second tier parts available to move a few frame/cab/beds and the associated parts to clear some space.

Well , Nwaco...

I need some parts from the Cab´s you´ve got there...

If you will cut out some metalparts from them , my door hinges mounting plate on the drivers door side is in bad shape and i can inform you how to cut "How much i need from that area" I also need the Kick boards or what you call them over there... The panel under the doors...

To send the hole cab to sweden is out of the question as you might understand , if you will help a repu friend over seas let me know !!!

I have been thinking to locate a Mazda B1600 for parts here in sweden , but i am not shore if they have the same fit as the repu...

Thanks for now !!!

Final Notice.....

Ok guys, Here's the scoop.

Lasse and Hunter,The door pillars are shot on this truck. PO welded the drivers hinge on and the pass hinge is cracked through and rusted. The lower door sills have rust through holes on the rear end. Not worth it if you ask me.

All other parts, here is what I have imediately available.

A frame which I will sell off intact if anyone wants it. If not, I will cut the front cross member off and keep it and scrap the frame.

Other than that, here is the list of the parts in good useable condition:

Core support, (I will cut it free if there is a buyer)
Rear end, 74 model, 4.56 ratio, full or partial.
Bed, pretty darn decent if you ask me.
Drive shaft
Gas tank assembly
Front springs
left front lower control arm
Left and right upper control arms
Left and right hub assemblies

The following parts are in ok condition with issues, but worth salvaging if you have no other options:

Front and rear bumpers
Front valance
Doors, left and right, including glass and channels

The cab floor is rusted through with a smear bondo job and it also has a leaky sunroof probably installed by a drunk from the side of a freeway with a sign that said he was a mechanic.

If you want to consider some of these parts, speak up now as
they will only be available for a very limited time and it will be off to the boneyard. I just can't store them and I need to make room for the trucks that will live on.

I do have lots of other parts, but these are the parts currently at risk that need new owners or buyers because they are surplus and I can't store everything.

"If wishes were REPU's"...:

Ken, I couldn't tell you how serious he really is or not, but I encouraged Scott Nagler from Boise to find this thread/contact you regarding what he might be needing/interested in... (We exchanged email/I sent pics since he expressed interest in one or the other of my trucks.)
Given that one of my trucks has that dead pist-on conversion, everything from the rad. core support, to the front crossmember/engine mounts, as well as the driveshaft *could* come in real handy... hell, the whole frame and that bed could be... if we had time, money, and space...

If you're interested in contacting him, I can provide his info.; if you'd like to hear from him yourself, I could forward your info... let me know.

Personally, I *might* be in a position to show up and haul off whatever I could fit into truck or van, before you boneyard any of those bits no one else ends up buying... would be a good excuse to go visit Mom; she lives kinda near you... but, I couldn't really spend for 'em.

Let me know if and when it might become an option!

Which parts are Junk and which are not?

I put it down last night.

Got right down to the nitty gritty, I had a stripped frame, cab, and bed. Oh, what to do....I finally took the sawsall to it and cut off the front crossmember and cut the frame in half right aft of the mid-cab crossmember. I decided I am going to fab up a REPU trailer. I figured I had a decent bed, suspension, and rear frame, as well as the parts to complete it. Why not. It is either the scrap yard or a better use for me.

I have all the key components still. I guess I could have saved the passenger door, but I didn't have it in me. I already have several extras, and the thought of another hour fighting those rusty door pillar screws or sit back and have a beer, just put it out of reach. What is left is a trashed cab with leaky sunroof and no core support and a partial frame. In a few short hours, it will be crushed.

It is amazing what truck can be reduced to, a few piles of greasy parts, and boxes of cab parts. Even though I have kept them, most parts, although in great condidion, nobody seems to want them or if they do, don't really want to pay a fair price for what is in no uncertain terms, rare parts AND the labor, time and initiative, as well as the initial investment necessary to make them available.

It took three full relatively productive days in the rain/cold fighting rusty bolts, stripped screws and LOTS of dirt and grease to disassemble this truck.

After all that work, should I be storing door latch mechanisms, underdash air boxes, heat shields, steering shafts and shrouds and door window glass, door upper frames, rear bumpers, gas tanks, brake lines, bench seats and such forever when nobody really wants them?

Everyone seems to be always interested in fenders, grills, hoods, trim, relay boxes, turn indicators, guages, tail lights, turn signals, front bumpers, etc...Hell, so am I, but it is not those parts that have me bothered, it is all the other unglamorous parts that I have.

I think I am going to start listing them on Ebay, if they don't sell on Ebay after two runs, they are JUNK. Ebay has a nice way of determining value...or lack of it.

I guess in a way, once a truck is dead, many of the parts die with it since many of these second tier parts in effect, never wear out and as such are never in demand, so why save them any longer?

So, it comes down to the question, with a pile of parts, which are junk and which are of value?

Good for you...

...that you're making a trailer; that's something I've considered from time-to-time, as well, to be sure. Good way to re-use the back half of what's otherwise too far gone!

As to 'fair price' given all your initiative and labor, and the Ebay thing: IMHO, when you add shipping expense, there is plenty that *loses* value by the time it's listed... especially if it's not pristine/clean, and in demand. Ebay can easily become the lowest common denominator...

Not to belittle your invested effort, but most of that effort you've expended for good reason, and to the benefit of those trucks you're completing, right? And, as I recall, you didn't pay a whole lot for a number of these donor trucks to begin with, either...

Does 'REPU community service' sound more positive to you than trashing/junking/crushing bits there's not much of a market for? Just asking... (Personally, I'd rather pass on/gift a lot of my accumulated stuff, were I needing to dispose of it immediately... than throw it away.)

That said, I certainly don't *need* to add to my own 'junk pile', either... and a trip to you and back qualifies as an investment/expense in time and gas, as well.

Don't mean to give you too much of a hard time, Ken... just being honest about my own motivations & financial/time constraints! Would I were wealthy...

(Reduce and Re-use still come before Recycle!) :)

A relatively clean,

...rust-free gas tank should still have some value... (just don't try shipping it unless it's Bone Dry!)

*Which* style of back bumper(s)? How pristine? Weight is a factor, as well... There might be some demand... (again, before shipping costs).

Perhaps we should be in touch about a selection of bits (core support/crossmember/driveshaft, etc.) that might actually have an application on a truck needing re-rotarized...?

Priorities...

Hey klaus,

I scrapped the cab and what was left of the frame. But, I just couldn't leave well enough alone, nope, couldn't do it. I just had to yank off the passenger door. I guess as much as I try, I just can't let a good part die.

I have everything else. I was hoping to get some reason not to add too much to the pile of parts by selling off some, but alas, I boxed most of them up and stacked them with their kind. I did cut off the front crossmember and the PO welded some sort of brushbar/tow rig in and around the front bumper and valance. Damn thing is 1/2 steel. i;ll need the plasma cutter to get the valance free. Speaking of that, for a rusty valance, it sure is in nice shape. Probably protected by the steel cage they put it in.

So, I got everything from the truck, whether I wanted it or not. The seat is a standard classic, ripped and dirty. Vinyl is shot, springs ok, and frame with rust patches.

Gas tank is a keeper, straighter than many I have.

I did sell some stuff today. I got several emails and managed to sell a bed, some hubs and a set of control arms.

I have a few deals in the works as well.

I will be putting some stuff on Ebay soon. Stuff that fits in a box and that I have multiples of that are demand parts.

I was mainly hoping to clear out some large space takers and quite frankly, I only really wanted the hood, fenders, and a few interior parts of this truck. I only bought the darn thing for the Weber side draft carb and manifold the guy had in a parts box that came with the truck. Of course, I kept that.

Anyways, relax, as much as want to, I won't be tossing any good parts in the rubish bin anytime soon. I'll give plenty of notice before things come to that.

Yes, sorta.....

I have one more truck to be parted, but that won't happen until at least spring.

That is the very part that motivated me to strip this truck, I sold a passenger lower control arm that I thought I had loose, turns out I had to get it off a rolling chassis, and once the c-arm is gone, the truck becomes somewhat of a monument. So, in turn, I processed the whole darn thing.

Because of that quagmire, I won't be so quick to sell parts that are still on trucks, especially those which render it immoveable.
