Hi Dan,

Although I don't have a trip to Vegas planned, me and the gf like to go there once during the summer if possible. Me and `The Boys` might head back there, don't know.

Freight certainly could be worked out.

trying to replace it with

a 4.625 I have a lead on but it'll take awhile before he pulls it.

so if anyone else has a good working functional complete 4.625 pumpkin I'm buying. and i can show you how to check the gearing to make sure it's the real deal :)

no prob about the cap klaus, i have a nice chrome non-locking one that's doing fine but still interested in urs.

I may have one for 'ya....

Brad, I know I'm not dismantling my '74, and I know the '76 has the 4.375, but I am not certain what my '75s have in them. I am missing a Technical Data book for '75, so I can't look it up either. If the '75s came with the 4.625, I'll definitely sell one to you, since at least one of those trucks is going to be completely disassembled (due to rust and space issues). They're both manual trans', by the way. I could have it pulled out for you within a month (the snow is finally melting!), as I have two business trips back to back. Let me know...

ratio

Neal,

The 75 workshop manual says 4.375 for the 75 REPU with stick and 4.111 for automatic.

Bruce,

Yeah, not sure why I didn't check there myself. I am thinking that there's a pretty good chance an early '75 got a 4.625, if the trucks' assembly was anything like some of their other models that had different equipment than their specs stated. I've run across that many times with RX-7s over the years (unmolested ones with records, no less).

Given that '75's

...were mostly re-labelled '74's, apparently, wouldn't it stand to reason that the 'actual' spec changes came closer to '76 ?

Gimpy!

Yeah, Max, doin' fine- except for a general lack of time and money to get projects done! Still playing the lottery too- one day, I'm telling you......

Have you gotten my visitor's wing done yet? Can't come back out that way 'til you get the house done, 'ya know- so don't go taking any more swan dives off the damn roof!

The chart is a nice piece to have, thanks for linking to it for everyone. Although, unless I'm wrong, the guy probably just copied all of the info from either the WSMs or Technical Data books. I noticed "mrmazda" in the URL- wonder if this is the guy in Texas that always has stuff for sale, including some pretty nice cars (even a REPU last year- with a 12A, if I remember correctly)?

hi max,

yes, i`ve looked at that website. VERY good stuff.

i have been doing research on LSD options, but I really need to take apare a REPU diff and take measurements and compare with prospective options.

nothing concrete as of today but i do have some leads. it's gonna take some more time. and most importantly, a 4.625 i can dissassemble and measure, use as a test mule.

So how do you check for the gear ratio without taking the whole thing apart? I was spinning the wheel and counting the drive shaft revolutions.

BTW, if you slip out one of the axle shafts to work on the bearings, is it easy to mesh the gears back up again? I took one out and now the drive shaft bolting plate does not turn when I spin the wheel.

On a LSD the wheel / shaft revolution works. But with open diff that don't work.

Divide # of teeth on ring gear by # of teeth on pinion gear.

ex:

37 ring teeth / 8 pinion teeth = 4.625

35 ring teeth / 8 pinion teeth = 4.375 which is what I have for sale, crated up and ready to ship.
