I think I need to cull the herd.........

So I collected another two trucks over the last two weeks. Seems the stable is getting a bit crowded (10), so I must face the reality that not all can survive. Winter is here, and without proper nourishment and care, some will not make it through the harsh times.

The latest arrivals are a couple more 74's, one for the fenders, and the other for the rebuilt engine, and a few other parts, namely suspension, drivelines, gears, etc. Neither one has much in the way of clean body parts or choice pieces, but they are relatively complete trucks. As much as I hate to do this, I must put them down.

If anyone needs parts, I must know now. I'll assess what condition, get that to you with a pic, and offer me value for my time and shipping, and I'll let you have it. I have $200 into them both and I can get $75 for the scrap metal and I get a few parts, but they MUST go and go SOON.

So here is the notice, let me know if you are interested in anything, and we'll go from there.

Do you have any hood supports? Mine was "fixed" awhile back but looks bad and I feel it is only a question of time before the weld breaks and the hood falls on my head. I need the one that is just the bracket on the drivers side, not the one with a spring.

I could also use a passenger fender, but I completely understand if that isnt something you want to deal with.

Does either truck have the part of the battery hold down that goes over the top of the battery and clips in to the handle on the hinged door?If so I really need one.I am in Massachusetts though. Is that a problem?

Parts......

Tom, Hood prop....Can't remember what I have , I'll check. I know it was missing on yesterday's haul as I had to hold the hood up.

Pass fenders, Yes, but that is the only reason why I bought one truck so I'm going to keep that one, and both are pretty dented on the other truck. I also seem to be having trouble finding a good right hand fender. I'm still short one right fender myself. I have lots of bashed up ones though.

Battery hold downs are missing on both and battery boxes are run-of-the-mill rusted on both trucks.

Oh, crap... !

Why is it that the timing of availability is always the direct opposite of cash flow...? I'm super busy right now, and if I started putting together a full-tilt list of stuff, well...
Don't suppose there's any 'extra' wheel centers or taillight trim rings? (Nevermind yet another lever-style hoodprop...) Straighter front bumper than I yet own? 'Extra' bumper ends, if not the center? Driver's side door lock cylinder, with key to fit? Still-usable accellerator cable; still-usable main parking brake cable? Front turn signal lenses, un-smashed? (I don't dare ask about any 'other' front-end bits...) I'm also short two bench seats... Don't suppose there's an 'extra' fuel sender unit cover panel, and/or 'extra' evap. tank panels?

Anything reasonable intact and cheap that you're not keeping, well... I hate to see usable parts get crushed!

Feel free to post some pics at 'my' MSN-group...!

PS--What ever came of the Mike connect? I've been kinda out-of-touch...

How about those bent fenders, battery door (exterior) head light assemblies, fuse block. Pictures would be helpful.. Sorry to hear that your having to thin, I understand about space and bad weather. Charles

Yeah, like the weather at Ken's house

...could be any better/worse for REPU's outside than the weather all my shit's sitting in around here...
Good point, Charles: Those bits not 'too' bent could be worth ironing out, for the 'rest' of us...!
Reduce*Re-use*Recycle :)

Yeah.. fuse block; duh! Any decent dash bits, like ashtray, or center? Not-too-worn out door lock/window mechanisms? How about a front-most crossmember, and motor-mount chop(s) to re-rotarize a REPU that was pist-on boogered? 'Extra' trans. cross?

(Just thinkin'... all depends on costs/time... I know, I know...)

Ken, you're potentially starting to resemble a REPU Santa Claus!

Hi Klaus,

No wheel centers to be sure. I'm still buying them one at a time myself. I went 100 miles to see the truck yesterday by a "promise" of a 40,000 mile bridgeport. I had no pics, just a town and cross address. I negotiated $250 on the phone for the truck that sat idle for over 2 years. Let's just say I was a bit disapointed in the first appearance. I had 2 hours and a $40 ferry trip under my belt. I finally struck a unique deal....I offered to take it off his hands for free. I gamble on the rebuilt engine and labor to move it, he gets it out of the yard. He took the deal and swears by the motor as his father bult it. So I netted a "possible" good motor, and all signs show it as a good motor, but the "bridgeport"...we'll see as it had a stock carb and exhaust manifold. Good news is he had it for over 15 years.

The front end of yesterdays truck is totaled, reason it sat for so long. Every piece is there, but every piece is damaged. I got door locks ,but no keys.

I would think I would have a couple of good accelerator cables. Don't know about the parking brake cable(s) and front lenses are toast. I do happen to have a few extra bench seats, none pretty, but several extra and I'm sure I can dig up a few condensate tank covers as well as a sender cover panel.

I am taking the drive trains, front suspension parts, a couple spare interior parts, a right front fender (if it is not a bondo special), a hood and a few other parts, but I have two boxes, a couple of rear bumpers, door parts, etc. I can keep and store anything that is reasonable small, but I can't keep frames, boxes, cabs, fuel lines, axles, wheels, dented fenders, etc. I will pretty much strip the trucks, and make available what people need, but I gotta loose the hulks. I wish I could get a box to Martin, I know he could at least use some of the parts...

Wife is being real patient with my growing stable and I need to show a willingness to loose a few to keep the system going. I've already scrapped two and need to trim back on the seven currently at home. Two are filling the shop, two drivers, and three in the back forty.

I will get a list going and get some pics up as soon as I get a decent light and a bit of time.

I haven't hooked up with Mike yet, and probably can't spend that kind of money on a new project until I clean up my yard and get the two in work done. I do want a 3 though...real bad.

I am going out now to prep the engine bay on the 77 for paint. I finished the suspension on it, mounted the engine/tanny/drive train, and hope to load the cab this weekend. It is looking sweet, new brakes including brake lines, clutch, bushings bearings, tie rods, ball joints, etc...Total rebuild icluding frame and ALL parts stripped to bare metal and repainted with chemical resistant zinc chromate primer and polyurethane enamel. I cleaned and re-wrapped the wire bundles, etc. Cab is stripped and repainted on interior, wheel wells and bottom, and I am wrapping up the engine bay now. It has been a long haul, I'll tell you. I tried to take pictures of it the other day, but because it is black, it is too dark to show its true colors.

Stay tuned about my progress and the parts situation. Don't worry, nothing real decent will die less the huge parts.

Here is last weeks $100 haul:

I will post pics of yesterdays haul when I get them.

A few needs/wants if available...

Ken,

Just saw this thread, and I'm a little late to the party, apparently. Looked over what everyone else wants, and hopefully I didn't miss any requests and am asking for the same things. I still need an unmolested radio trim bezel, proper jack and handle, tool kit (as complete as you may have for sale), a full set of stock wheel trim rings in good shape, and a damn A/C system! (I have parts and even a system off a B2000/2200 from Charles, but a full REPU setup still eludes me).

I am having so much trouble finding all the parts that I need and want (and for a realistic price) that I am toying with the idea of just selling off the two trucks I have and waiting a few years for a clean truck like Charles' or Craig's old truck to become available.... anyone interested??

Neal, I doubt your late to the party.......

Its just that everyone else might be earlier. I'm compiling a list of what everyone wants, then I'm going to strip the trucks of everything manageable, and dump the bones. The truck pictured looks good in the pic, but it is probably the rustiest chassis I have seen. I'm sure it can be cleaned up, but I've got so many better ones that why bother. I figured for the price, I would just fill up the parts bins and move on.

I think I will try to strip both during my Christmas break, and I'll then assess what condition everything is in and get notice to everyone what I have and try to fill the orders. I think I have a spare set of trim rings out back, I have never seen a tool kit, I might be able to muster up a radio bezel, and as for A/C, I have one set in my 75 auto, and I'm keeping it.

For everyones sake, I would not scrap wire runs, fuse boxes, window cranks, etc, or any other easily removed smaller part unless they are wasted. I do have a spare battery door or two, the truck pictured came with two, and I don't need any more. I bought one of these strictly for the fenders, and I am going to keep fenders until I have finished my trucks and then the unused ones will be sold off. I did find in Sundays truck the only perfect non-broken ashtray I have ever seen, and as you might have guessed, I'm keeping it.

Keep listing the parts wishes, and when I get them stripped, I will list the items available and get notice to those who asked. I will try to be fair in getting this stuff out there.

What I am really most interested in now is if anyone needs a bed or frame or cab? They are the parts most at risk to get scrapped right away....Anyone?

Ken, Its a good thing I don't live on the west coast. I couldn't be married, my wife would run me off cause I too would have every lost little REPU I could find at the house. I'm sure this one just followed you home from school today. Did you feed it, now it will think it lives here. Oh I could just here it now. But I do wish I had access to more of the parts that you and Klaus have access to. I will be needing a radiator sometime next year if you still have one that can be repaired that your willing to release to the eastern REPU shelter. Keep us updated as to the new finds, Charles

parts I can use for my 74 if for sale:

5 speed ribcase trans

hood prop (not the spring type, need the small lever type. hope doesn't take me 2 years to get one!!!!:-)

fuse box

speedometer

left and right headlight assemblies (but not the headlights themselves)

battery door

does anyone have a source for rubber hubcap grippers? anyone with brand new ones want to take up the project of getting them reproduced? I'm sure Craig can supply us with his contact who made the reproduction tail light and backup light gaskets....

5 speed rib case tranny...you mean like......

this one:

Sorry, but it is my only one, and it has a home here. I do have quite a few 4 speed ribcases. Not sure whether I am willing to let them go though.

I can probably come up with all the other stuff maybe less the hood prop. I'll have to search some of the boxes. I have a room full of boxed parts and I never really got any system of inventory control. The whole thing kind of grew on me and now I am bulging at the seams with boxes of parts.

I also happen to have a full set of brand new grippers and I have been meaning to make a mold. Just haven't got around to it yet. It is on the "to-do" list.

Oh, and by the way, FYI...I am the tail light guy. Craig was the back-up light guy. If you need some of those, just let me know.

I'll put your requests on my list and start digging the stuff out. I am going to try to pull most of the stuff from the two trucks first, then fish it out of the pile last.

And Charles, I have lots of radiators, so when your ready, let me know.

Not that this is practical . . .

But I could really use the sheetmetal. Even if you had the time to chop some big chunks out of the bed (flares, around the filler neck hole, etc) I wonder what shipping on that sort of thing would go for.

I do have a plasma cutter........

and cutting out some pieces is not entirely out of the question. I suppose it depends on what specific pieces you have in mind.

It might be possible to package up a bundle of targeted metal and send it south. I personally wouldn't pay for floor pans, as I just fab them myself even though I have access to tons of them, but other less easily made parts may be worth the expense.

You'll have to decide what you have in mind, and we'll just figure it out. I do have just the bed for destruction. It has a welded tailgate opening, but the fenders and sidwals are in fabulous shape. Shipping to Florida might be a bit sporty though.

Ken, my admiration is turning into envy!

...and if and when my 'reality' around here demands a complete '180', I'll be moving to your yard, and camping out there with my little 'herd' until you put me to work, and teach me all you know! (Just kidding, but seriously, that might be the only way I ever end up with anything finished... ha, ha...)
Utterly incomprehensible to me, the concept of scoring as big for as few $$$, REPU-wise, as you've managed! Kudo's to you for sniffin' 'em out, and follow-through on the level you are able to!
'Bridgeport', ha ha! If it actually is, it'll be like one of my engineless trucks that had a B.S. less-than-two-inch diameter exhaust system under it, (with numerous twists and turns, to boot), that purportedly had a bridgey in it, (that, naturally, failed to perform...). Guess it's possible someone ran out of money/brains after getting a good one built... or, like I've heard before, was under the impression they purchased more of a motor than the builder was willing to sell them...

Seriously, though: There's all manner of things I'd LOVE to do, and that might well include another frame/bed/cab... but, reality is cold, harsh, expensive, and (currently) wet... So, if we're seriously talking about a small mountain (vanload) of utterly cheap, usable, other parts, well... I might be able to put together a run up to visit to take 'em off your hands, "for a unique 'deal'"!

Neal: If you're serious about scoring a better-condition/restored REPU, I hope you're prepared to $pend... I don't imagine there'll ever be an abundance of super-nice, quality ones available, let alone on a budget... Might require hyper-vigilant searching, and a travel budget to boot... ? Not that I wouldn't wish it for you, but... ***Say, what about that 'spare' bed I've been holding for you for all these months???

Charles: If it's worth the cost of shipping from me to you, and vice-versa, and I have anything you want/need that I don't, perhaps we can trade some stuff? If I were in your part of the country, and wanted/needed a radiator, I'd consider contacting Repuguru's machinist pal in Atlanta, leaflk (sp?) on ebaymotors, and see about that brand-new one he had... nevermind the cost...

I'm sure there's more stuff I'm forgetting, but...
