I had same problem.....

I place an ad locally, and had a lady call me up and give me a number for a guy who had three. I called him up and he said he had two and his Dad had another. His personal truck wasn't for sale but his other one and his Dad's were. I head on down and the old man wouldn't part with it. It had 80K, he had had it since 76, and it was in primo garaged condition. Bad news is he wouldn't sell. Good news is he is 83 years old and I am first in line. He says when he kicks, I get the truck and his kid gets the cash. I got the other one, a runner for $100.00.

Ya gotta love this stuff.....and obviously they do too....

That's the best way to handle those things. Be polite first and formost, if they don't want to sell just tell them you don't blame them cause you feel the same way about them that he does. Ask him if you can leave your name and number just in case he ever changes his mind or knows someone else who wants to sell.

If you part of good terms, if/when the guy decides to sell he'll usually give you a call before anyone else.

old man would'nt give it up

considering he would'nt even open the door,{ whole conversation was through the window} i don't think anyone will be getting that one. i'm gonna try offering him a 50.00 and see if he will swap left side corner grill with me, mine is cracked.. but i don't much faith that that will happen either. it's a 500.00 dollar truck {pretty beat}

Dreams die hard...

..as I'm sure we all know too well. Like the guy in my town who's had a rusting, dead-pistoned REPU sitting in his drive for years...bed full of construction scraps...years ago we'd talked about it for $100, but I had no place to put it...then, when I got the place, $100 wasn't good enough any more! I mean, it's fairly straight & all, but heavy on the rust...and totally dead...and, as I recall, the cab is a fishbowl every winter...and the hood won't pop, making it a bitch to move w./out breaking something...
And, this is no rotorhead we're talking about--no other rotaries around his place. Go figure!
