1974 REPU in SouthEast Texas

My 1974 REPU is now up for sale. Price is $1200. I'll be putting it up on ebay at some point, but wanted to give you "REPU Nuts" first shot at it.

There is a 5-year old photo in the Photo Gallery called "Scott Garvie_1974_Repu" I will be taking current condition photos today and will take any specific photos you want.

I bought the truck in 1998 when it had an on-the-road restoration done including a nice paint job. The previous owner is a Mazda parts mgr and had used lots of NOS rubber, some glass, and other little bits in the interior. I quit driving it in late 2000 due to excessive engine smoke. The smoke essentially stops after about 10 minutes of driving, but returns after the truck sits for more than a day or two.

The rust that had been repaired has slowly returned and the body will require some dedicated attention in order to make it a true beauty again. It has been sitting for the past few years in my high and dry shop, but it has suffered some from sitting still so long. I just resurrected it by replacing two rear wheel cylinders, new fuel pump, cleaned out the carb, and cleaned up the fuel tank, and replaced filters and some fuel hoses. It will need more of the same to get it dependable again. I wanted any potential buyers to be able to take as long a test drive as they wanted. Also, I hate to let this truck go, and I HAD to put a few miles on it before turning it loose! I just have to face reality that I have too many projects.

Truck is non-original in several ways. Seat, stereo, RX7 steering wheel, lowered suspension, ADDCO front bar, crappy rusty aftermarket wheels, but Yoko rubber is still good.

Engine is a true 4-port 13B that is supposedly a 1980-ish vintage overseas replacement unit. It has the "R5" housing markings around the spark plugs that I see you guys talk about. It has an RB header and a BIG Flowmaster muffler. It has an RB air filter housing with a brand new RB element in it. The trans is an RX7 5-speed.

This is a neat little truck that has true potential to get back on the road and stay on the road for many years to come, but it needs some attention from a dedicated REPU fan. It is by no means a "junker". I just want to paint a picture of reality for you guys. I want to see this thing find a nice home.

I'm rambling.... so email me with any particulars you want to know.

sgarvie@gt.rr.com

Thanks,
Scott

...speaking with that Mazda parts guy in question on the phone, 'back when'...

Someone should accquire this one, and maintain/restore!

I took a bunch of pictures but I haven't been too successful with this site's Photo Gallery. I may register and post them on Klaus' MSN site. I took shots of the rust spots except for the floor boards near the door jam. I can email pics to you while I figure out Klaus' site.

A few more good points... all the lights... headlights, blinkers, backup lights, dome light, etc work fine. It has a pretty decent Pioneer stereo system (cassete). All the glass is very nice. Tint could stand to be replaced of just removed. It has the original jack and tire lowering tool. All the rubber is good, including the rear tailgate bumpers. The short hood seal on the pass side is missing.

I have the two red rectangle reflectors for the rear, just not mounted.

The front valence is PERFECT.

Th gas gauge doesn't work.

I've been driving it for the past two days, running errands and to work and back (30 miles each way!) Runs great, nice and smooth, no overheating or coolant issues. Like I said previously, the smoking is pretty serious on startup + a few minutes.

This is a decent little truck. Come and get it. It'll make my life easier by making my wife happy (well at least happIER!)

You're more than welcome...

...to post pics on 'my' MSN group; I found it to be simpler than trying to get pics up in the gallery here...

Without even looking at current pics, it sounds like the price is right...

Wish it could be me!

You should get it, Rick... just don't mod it out 'too' much!
