Dash

Someone just broke into my truck and destroyed my dash getting the stereo out. I wonder if anybody knows weather or not a Ford courier dash would fit a 77 pick-up.

REPU dash

Alas, stupid thieves, when they rip off your stereo, usually the center panel gets destroyed in the process, the courier panel is not the same and will not fit.
hopefully they will not have broken a wind wing, on the way in, for you to replace also.
At least a competant thief would take the radio without damaging everythng else.
The center panel was quite pricey way back when Mazda had them, this might be another good piece to have a concerted effort to repro, like the front valance panel.
I've got one that looks like your's does now also.

I was toying around with the idea of making some interior pieces out of fiberglass. My dash is in bad shape from an amateur car stereo installation. I’ve never done fiberglass before but would like to try. Can anyone recommend a good book on fiberglass? I’m going tomorrow to pickup the supplies and give a few small pieces a try. I want to make the plugs first then be able to cast pieces from that. I thought I’d start on the ashtray since mine is cracked. It couldn’t function as an ashtray but I don’t smoke anyway. Anybody have any thoughts?

Hey RP,

Sorry to hear about you're rotten luck. That's terrible and I know the most frustrating part is the trashing of your truck and not being able to lay hands on the jerk who did it.

Anyway, if you're wanting to learn to work w/ FG more power to you.

You can try starting here:

http://www.fibreglast.com/

And google. I think you'll find these to be the most helpful. If you want paper books you can hit Barnes and Noble or Amazon for a Haynes manual on fiberglass. I bought the general bodywork manual and it was pretty good and very inexpensive. They're generally better than the car repair manuals that the put out.

If you're talking about large surfaces like dash pads or body panels I think you'll find fiberglass a great application, but if you're reproducing details (if you're thinking about making a new center console for your radio for instance) you might look into castable urethane resins.

These will allow you to reproduce details and create a strong product. If you try glassing that radio console its going to be a good bit of work. Hand laying the mat and reproducing the from detail would probably be more labour intensive.

I know that's not very much specific information for you. General knowledge is probably where you need to start right now, but I'll try to answer any questions you have even tho we're probably not far off experience-wise as I've only recently started mucking with this stuff myself.

Good luck,
