door speakers: what are the biggest that will fit?

I have 6" round door speakers but want something bigger. Thinking 6 x 9 three way. Will it fit in the door? Have dremel tool with cutoff disk, will travel!

I'd look into other locations too Brad, don't limit youself :)

I really like those emclosures that let you place speakers in the corners by the kick panels. I'd also think about behind the seats too.

I'm sure you can make them fit in the doors tho. I just hate putting speakers in my doors.

i measured the doors

and a 6x9 with 3.25" mounting depth will fit. Will need dremeling but it'll work. Should fit nicely if I mount it through the interior door panel.

Yeah, I hate putting speakers in the doors too. Every time door is shut the speaker gets rattled. And with some of my heavy handed friends I have to remind them "don't slam the door". But I don't want to take up what little precious space there is in the cab with the boxy speakers by your feet. I might mount some mids and subs in the kick panels. Mabye I'll put a rubber gasket under the 6x9 to help absorb a small amount of shock?

As for behind the seat; yes there's some room back there for a pair of small speaker boxes but that's precious space too!! I might mount a toolkit or a parcel tray or something else on the rear of the cab wall.

What about a really good set of 6" components?

THe smaller woofer would fit better in the bottom corner of the cab (by the kick panels) and the tweeters you can mount up at dash level. You'll get better (and bigger) sound quality out of those than the 6X9s and might provide you with more options.

I can get better bass out of a 6x9

found some nice kenwood 6x9's that go down to 25 hrz. and theyr'e LOUD. plus go up to 33,000hrz for the high end.

Gonna order them now. I have a set of 4" kenwood mids and can buy some tweets if i need them.

thanks monkey!!!!

a few years late but oh well

im redoing the panels on my 74. the kickpanels were trashed. the doors were ok other than the top back corners. i had 5.25" in the doors and im replacing them with "universal" q logic kickpanel deals. not sure what setup ill install but most likly a 6.5" comp setup. And brad i donk know how you think you can get a small box behind the seat.... i have a set of the kicker "truck wedge" 2 piece boxs and they werent even close to fitting behind the seat with it slide all the way up. and im a short shit and i have to have the seat almost all the way back. so i figure im gonna be left with just 1 set of speakers... so ill do a nive jl or mbquart or something setup with a small amp. I wish i had room to slap in a sub or 2... my 8" solos would make the body fall apart 1 bump at a time :)
