Replacing floors and rubber seals.

What have you guys done as far as replacing floor panels? I have quite a bit of extra vent holes on my 74 and I am contemplating replaceing with 12 guage plates and welding them in. I am probably gonna be removing the can so I can get up under it better.
Any suggestions or ideas. I will coat the underside witha spray on protectant like a sprayable bed caoting once done as wel as the inside of the cab before I recover the interior.
Also anyone have any leads on new rubber seals for the door jambs?.

Unknown...

...haven't seen anyone post here about actually replacing panels in the bottom of the cab... but it's certainly relevant. Nice to know some guys are as dedicated/motivated as you, to actually go for that amount of resto. effort! One of mine 'would' need such treatment...
There's another thread or two on this forum where prep/antirust/rust conversion, etc. coatings and products were discussed in detail... if you find it, you might have another perspective to add?
I'm unsure as to the continued availability of the door seals, but I'd guess that J.C.Whitney might have the courier version, if not others still available elsewhere...
Craig the partsgod oughta have the definitive answer, as to the availability of the genuine mazda part...

Well since my truck didn't have any that were good "door sill rubbers" I have nothing to copmpare with but it looks like the mid 70's Chevy c1500 door sill rubbers would work, but again i need to find a good set to see.

door seals

I used the seals from the 77-81 mazda pickup right side part# 3874-58-901A and left side part# 3874-59-901A. The original style door seal is no longer available from mazda.
I did put on the old style in 97 and always had trouble getting them to seal, the newer ones are a pinch welt and provide a great seal.

rust

i have some serious rust issues in my 74 cab also. its a shame cause the cab is the only thing that is bad. so i've been looking for a donor courier or mazda b1600 cab that i can cut the floor section out of and put in place of mine. its so bad, that there is nothing for the rubber seals to be attached to on the door sills.

Not to keep bringin up the JC Whitney catalog cause I am not a big customer of theirs.
They do sell several types of weather stripping that you can buy by the foot.
You shouldn't have any problem find one that suits your needs.

Are there any cheaper door seals out there? That fit right, pinch welt no adhesive, no cutting? It's hard to justify $214 for two strips of rubber shaped like a door frame.

I asked Mazdaformance about the door and window seals and below is what I got back. Needless to say I have placed my order. Did I mention Mazdaformance is awesome!

Here are your prices (30% off Mazda’s list prices) for the items you’ve requested:

Right Door Seal 3874-58-901A $62.44

Left Door Seal 3874-59-901A $62.44

Window Channel 0588-58-241A $22.61 each

It will take 2-3 business days for us to receive these from Mazda USA before we could ship out an order. S+H will be $14.95 for UPS Ground.

Please let us know what you would like to do.

-Shawn

Great News!

Tom,

Thanks for the input you got from Shawn. I never thought to call him about the door seals. When I bought mine that are meant for the '84 B series, they cost me just about $125 apiece, with a 20% wholesale discount from a local dealer (I think I got screwed). I'll definitely get an order into Shawn as soon as I can get that extra money together (after buying my '76 REPU this past weekend).

Yes you got screwed on that price, according to one of the latest price guides they retail for 120 each.

i think i have Atkins Rotary talked into posting them on ebay (or in their ebay store) for 60 plus the shipping, i am also looking for the part #s (cross over #s) for any of the other rubber that works if you can pass them along i will see what kind of deals i can work. on the above price they make a little money not much but getting the business is the most important part.

Just installed all my door and window seals today. I must say it was well worth the $180 or whatever it all came out to. Now I can hear all kinds of new strange noises and be extra paranoid when I drive, pretty amazing!

Tom, the cure for that'll be

...a header hooked up to a nice, (louder), exhaust... :)

which louder muffler...

For $107 shipped I got a Magnaflow 2.5" pipe, 6" round can 33" overall length muffler. It fits just behind the axel and tailpipe comes out to the right of the reverse lights. All my exhaust is straight thru and it revs beautifully. The Magnaflow makes the truck quieter than the cheapo turbo muffler that was on there, and makes gobs more hp!

While you're at it:

Don't miss the opportunity to hear your motor run on an open header, if only for a minute! Just remember to wear your earplugs, and make sure there isn't a cop parked within a 5 mile radius... It's a sweet sound, indeed...!

What Magnaflow do you have? Is it one of the 6" almost to the bottom of this page?
http://magnaflow.com/02product/xl/xlperformance.htm

Just that and the rest is straight pipe? I may have to hit up the local MAgnaflow dealer and see what that thing looks like.

...just an update from my end...

I just got off the phone with a dealerhsip I have bought most of my parts from for the past 8-10 years and had them run the part numbers Tom got from Shawn at the old Mazdaformance a year or two back. This is what I was told:

Right Door Seal 3874-58-901A Still Avail., $100 or so (he didn't do any discounts, just shot me a quick idea)

Left Door Seal 3874-59-901A NLA

0588-58-241A Still Avail., $36 or so

I think he just checked mNet, basically looking in the PDC inventories. There may be some of the left door seals on dealer shelves, or hiding in the PDC system somewhere, but just an FYI for what it's worth...

I snagged a pair of the window channels just to have 'em while they're still around.

Neal.

Neal or anyone, do you have the part numbers for 84 B series door seals? Left and right side please.

Thanks,
Brad

Floors and Panels

Way back I posted on that "other" board a url for some folks in Thailand that make body parts.I looked around and found this one don't know if it is the same one or not, so take a look.

As these guys are manufactures it would certainly take a serious group buy to get anything done, then there is customs, shipping to deal with. Not impossible, just difficult.

well

using the part numbers above, the passenger side door seal has 8 available nationwide online inventory check with mazda. drivers side 0. I put in an order for both, if there is an updated or replacement part number for drivers side mazda should ship it to me.

When I called a dealership asking for 84 b2000 door seals, he looked it up and said NLA, "they don't make them anymore". DOH!

we'll see what shows up on the doorstep.
