Floor Console (?)

I'm installing two buckets from an '88 Integra into my '77. But my problem now is that space between the seats. I want to put in a console, and had intended to use one I have from an RX-2. It doesn't really fit especially around the heater area, so I will have to cut and mold.
I wonder if anyone has done this, and can suggest a better console set-up. I can find all sorts of parts in the local 'yards, so maybe I ought to look for a better fit.
Any and all ideas will be appreciated.
Jim

I have a 77 also and put two procar seats in lieu of the bench seat. I tried several consoles that included an integral armrest but none seemed to fit for all the ergonomics. These were from a Peugeot and Chrysler turbo 2 seater I think. Those consoles had extra switches I wanted to use for windows and other accessories. Finally split it up as follows: plastic console from an old 70's Datsun F-? for the radio and shifter, a narrow honda 90 motorscooter seat and welded a support for under it so my kid could sit there (with added middle seat belt) and finally a back seat folding armrest from the Peugeot on top the cycle seat which doubles as the kiddie backrest and folded down is a good armrest at a comfortable height. An armrest that is too long when folded down will interfere with the shifter. when folded down, also, you might want to find a late 70's courrier cardboard trim panel need to cover up the inside metal body.

Was thinking about the same thing...

I have been toying with the same idea on my '76. I am going to be extending the cab this Spring (still too cold up here yet), and will probably use Turbo II seats. I have mocked in a lower dash panel off of a 1st gen RX-7 (the part that goes around the stereo and shifter). Seems to fit just fine, although there will need to be finishing work on the sides, and face panel fabrication. The RX-7 piece fits nicely around the shifter, and an RX-7 armrest will fit as well, although it is too low if just laid on the floor.

yes they did

Mazda did have a center console for the REPU.
It was a dealer option. Not many were sold ,obviously.
I was lucky to aquire one years ago. But unfortunatly it is the only one I have ever seen.

Floor Console

Several years back, someone set me a photo of a console. It really wasn't much, but I'll see if I can find it again and post it here.
I'd love to see something newer made up. I drive my REPU everday, and I need something with practical use, like cup holders etc.

Center Console

As a matter of fact the blue 74 I just got has a center console in it, unfortunately I am digitally challenged and can't take pics or post the ones I have in the gallery, I can post to Klaus group on MSN.
