A/C added!

Just got finished adding A/C to the truck. I was looking to get a "factory" setup, but thecosts were too much, IMO. So, I went and bought one of the universal hot rod type evaporator setups that uses 3 remote mount vents. I mounted 1 on the pass. side, 1 in the middle and 1 on the dr. side. One drawback (if you want to call it that) was I had to remove the fresh air vent on the pass side and cut back the metal ducting that runs to the heater box (don't know if that's required on the "factory" setup) to get it mounted where I wanted. Now, you could probably mount it more in the location of the shelf under the glove box and not cut anything, but it seemed to me that it was a bit low so I mounted it up as high as I could get it. Evaporator/controls/and vents were $195, new compressor was $165, condenser and A/C bracket used from a RX4 was $40, new hoses were $250 and new receiver/drier was $30. So, for about $700, I got a basically brand new A/C setup. Not too far off what most seem to be asking for a used, 30+ year old system. You could probably find a used compressor at the wreckers for under $40 and save another $120 or so. Just putting it out as another option. I'll try and get pics up this weekend.

For the A/C unit, I got mine from Southern Rods, but there are others that carry them. The compressor is just a Sanden type replacement.
