Factory Duct Taped

I don't know if you can do that unless you take you own material to a upholstery shop. I guess you would need two complete MAZDA REPU seats. He could rob material from one seat to repair the other. I have noticed that the driver side seems to be ragged in 'most' cases while the passenger side 'usually' remains intact.
Another option is a newer Courier/B series truck seat. I found a perfect one in a 80' model Courier while combing the junkyard the other day. I also found a few worthy seats in other like trucks. Heck, I found 2 truck jacks and spare tire crank rods while out there. I know there are some of you guys missing those items. Hit the BoneYard before the old Couriers/B Series are gone. Most junk REPUs are long gone from most yards, but there are still plenty of good items that fit out there. For now.

Replace with other seats?

I've been considering replacing the bench with something like seats from T2 or some other car.

Then I could have a console, and a bit more room for 'stuff' and have a true 2 seater....

Most of the bucket seats are thicker than the drivers compartment will allow in the 74-76 trucks. They will fit in with modification but they will also push you foward in your driving space. And these trucks are limited in their space to start with.
If you do chose to do it see if you can round up some thin backed seats. Like truck bucket seats from another mini truck. I have had 2 74-76 trucks I have bought with car buckets installed. After a few weeks of sitting pushed foward with my knees banging into the steering wheel and able to adjust my drivers mirror with out lifting my arm from the door frame I had enough and put another bench back in.
The 77 does not have this problem.

I've been mulling over just this issue for a couple'a years now... compounded for me 'cause I want a driver's seat that actually holds me in place for auto-x, yet retains some comfort for the street... most racing seats are either too laid-back, or un-padded, or expensive... never mind getting in and out in limited space over big side bolsters, etc. ...
Found some lo-back buckets in the 'Demon Tweeks' catalogue (Welsh-based european performance/rally supplier) but didn't risk it... thought about direct-padding the metal below the rear window... mounting an actual harness properly w./out going straight thru the rear of the cab's another sticky one... There must be a way! But I'm not a little guy...
If I get around to rebuilding a bench, I'll need more than just a re-cover. Seems those springs, etc. sag to the Left on the driver's side from the use pattern... Aw hell, at least it's still semi-functional!

Autocross REPU

Klaus what class are you running in the SCCA? I remember a REPU running in DSP with my RX3 way back in 92'. He had done some suspension work to it and did well.

"practically in a class by myself!" --Ha ha...

...seriously, tho-- here our local club, the EESCC -Emerald Empire Sports Car Club-- has an 'unofficial' class for Sport Truck...otherwise I'd have to try to sneak it into CSP, based on the header... the cool thing about Sport Truck is it's wide open for mods! Had I known ballast was also legal, that full-size 4-plus litre Dodge w./ the LSD and 300 lbs of sand in his bed wouldn't have beat me by less than a second! My biggest issue: keeping the back connected and not over-driving the tight course--2nd gear all the way!!! Next time, I'll be slightly more prepared...right now I'm still running in un(derp)-repaired class...

I have some Acura integra seats in my other 1990 Mazda. They seem like they would fit the REPU if I put them in without the head rests. Speaking of head rests. Has anybody ever hit their head on glass since the original seats have no head rests? doesn't it seem like a safety issue?

A tight compartment prohibits you from doing anything else but backing against the rear of the cab with buckets. I even thought one time about using glue to attach remote headrest to the rear window. I shot that down when I realized I had just tinted my windows. Glad I did.

So it would be really tight in the cab if I tried to have buckets put in huh? How about if you go to a upholstery shop and have them pad the bench around the hips like a bucket so it'll keep you in place when you drive.....just one of my many thoughts......

If you had to have buckets I'd look for sothing out of a CRX or something. I'm looking at leather buckets for the Miata, which I htink are going for $350 a piece new. Those have such a thin back that they shouldn't cause a lot of trouble.

Alas, my '77 is 97% complete and original. I had visions of a custom interior and TII conversion but that seems somehow heretical now :) A good problem to have I suppose. Even my bench is in good enough shape to reupholster. Maybe I'll chance across another REPU in the near future that isn't so 'together' and I can play with that one.

autox repu

REPU with header is in FSP. I just asked solo2.com this and will race this sunday. Rx4 and other mini trucks are in same class so it makes sense. Truck class is wide open so it's a money class. What can be done to get a REPU handle?

What good shocks are out there?

The seats in my truck are 95 honda seats, had them customed shaped and reupholstered to look like RX-2 seats and had the emblems of a RX-2 four door seats put in the seats. Using original 3 piece repu seat belts.

How about posting pics (if you haven't already)? I'm always happy to see others' interior work. Can't promise I won't steal ideas though :)

Brad--

Much can be done to make a REPU handle--most of which I haven't gotten around to, and all of which we might more appropriately discuss in a chassis/suspension thread...
Shocks: depends on what you can find, and wanna spend--nevermind what'll accommodate how much drop... but some workable rears cross over with mustang #'s, and I seem to recall a front option crossing with monza...
Biggest improvement: sticky racing rubber. And if you've ever bounced your head off the glass, wait'll you try it with a helmet on! FSP??? Guess maybe the rules've changed some since I last checked...or it depends on who ya ask.
Watch out you don't destroy your left elbow on the door as well! Sport Truck may indeed be a 'money' sub-class...but who's spending what on auto-x-specific performance mods, vs. street looks/"performance" (& stereos) on their trucks?

Does anyone know what seats are or may be a direct swap (no new drilling, tapping etc)?

Thanks!

I had some 1st gen. rx-7 seats in my 75.Had to make some mounting brackets and drill a couple of new holes. I even had room behind them for some small speaker boxes.
